We performed a comparison between Rubrik, Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows [EOL], and Veritas NetBackup based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Veeam Software, Zerto, Commvault and others in Backup and Recovery."The main benefit is that we are secured in terms of workloads. We know that if we need to restore any VMs, or even any files inside a VM, that we will succeed 100 percent. This means that we don't need to spend much time administering the backup environment because we know it is self-healing and efficient. So, we are spending that time on something else, which is always a plus."
"I don't know if it is the best or the worst but it's very easy to install and very easy to balance. Sometimes that it's a problem because the installer of these data gets extremely scared because it's so easy. The product is easy to install, easy to balance, and easy to work with. Another really good point is the instant recovery."
"We had some VMware issue as VMware did some changes on the AHCI drivers. Rubrik saved our environment those times."
"Drives the back-end through a powerful, well-documented API."
"The archiving, off-of-box, is awesome. It lets you put your data where you want it and gives you the peace of mind of having more than one copy of it. And it's smart about the way that it does the archiving. It doesn't just copy one-for-one. It does all of its processing of the deduplication and compression before it sends it off to the archive, which helps with our cloud costs."
"It has a single pane of glass interface."
"Rubrik is very simple to implement and setup. "
"Rubrik has improved our organization by minimizing downtime."
"The product is free to use. We don't have to pay for a license."
"The most valuable features of Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows are the backups, ease of use, and report manager."
"It's powerful and user-friendly."
"Veeam is very user-friendly and intuitive software."
"To do the actual backup configuration is also not too bad."
"The user interface is good. It provides a lot of information."
"The solution is useful for taking backups for end-user laptops and end-user workstations where data is involved."
"The most valuable feature is that it's a VMware environment."
"Logs are very easy to read, parse, and use for diagnostics."
"The most valuable feature is its stability."
"Deduplication is the most valuable feature as it reduces the backup time and provides backup of a single copy of data"
"We were evaluating other products and getting confused between Commvault and Veritas NetBackup. The one reason that we started with Veritas NetBackup is the pricing of the license. There's no other reason from a technical perspective or even operation or capability of the two software. The main reason we chose Veritas NetBackup was that in our use case it is more cost-effective."
"Veritas NetBackup provides good backup performance, and I can mount the snapshot without an installer."
"I am comfortable with using this product."
"Best feature is its three-tier backup."
"It is pretty stable. We have one dedicated technician that is taking care of all the data protect. Typically, we have an issue once a month, if that. Or once every two months."
"They need to find a solution for SMBs. It is currently only suitable for enterprises or big customers. They need to find a solution that suits SMBs."
"Lacks availability in a NFR format of virtual appliances to test them in public cloud environment."
"In terms of what could be improved with Rubrik, we need to improve the backup for remote sites. The competitors are stronger in terms of their remote office back up. Rubrik needs to improve to be stronger for backup. This is the main thing."
"Could be improved from an analytics point of view."
"Rubrik's disaster recovery capabilities could be improved."
"I would like for unmanaged backups to be able to be saved in a separate policy."
"They support Hyper-V and it works with our CloudOut, the cloud DR, but they seem to add features for VMware first and Hyper-V gets added second or sometimes several releases after the VMware feature comes out."
"The deployment and configuration of the backup service is something that could be streamlined a little bit, particularly when you're trying to do a SQL workload. You have to install a backup service on the server. You only have to do it once and then you're done, but you have to do that on every server that you want to protect."
"The backups can go slow."
"The solution's compression ratio and high speed for backing up can always improve. Aspects that need improvement are less time, better quality, higher security, and more compression. These are continuous requirements for any customer."
"Interface could possibly be improved."
"The solution could use some updates to minor details omitted from current reporting."
"I would like to have a more automated installation process."
"While the Veeam agent is perfect, sometimes the agent doesn't install in Windows."
"An area that this solution could be improved would be with the licensing."
"A feature I would like to see is universal restore. At the moment, restoration can only be smooth on the same hardware. Let's say you have a server and you back it up with Veeam Agent, in case it fails or crashes. If you later buy a new server because the same one isn't available on the market anymore, there's a high chance that Windows will not boot up if you restore from the Veeam backup because the hardware is now different. Acronis has the universal restore feature, so it will work with generic drivers and you can restore Windows in any dissimilar hardware. As far as I know, Veeam doesn't have this feature yet."
"The interface should be improved."
"The solution is quite expensive."
"It was very complicated, and it required a lot of work in terms of management. We have moved to Rubrik. One of the reasons for getting rid of Veritas NetBackup was the fact that at one point, we had the support staff with 12 to 15 people to manage Veritas NetBackup, whereas, with Rubrik, I'm the only one managing Rubrik. There is one more person who works with me mostly due to the fact that in case I'm not around, someone else knows what to do, but I'm the only one who is a full-time manager of Rubrik. The complexity of Veritas required a large staff to manage it. We had daily issues that had to be looked into and resolved. A lot of these issues revolved around Veritas' handling of VMware, which is why first we moved VMware off Veritas. After we did that, we were also able to reduce our staff count. Their licensing is a disaster. It is extremely complicated. In most cases, Veritas themselves can't understand their own licensing."
"We would like the Java console to be updated."
"Maybe they could add more cloud solutions."
"Setup implementation."
"System administrators would be more efficient in NetBackup if the number of tools and command lines was reduced."
"It gets a lot of new features, but improvements in basic functionality are often sacrificed for a shiny new bullet point to put on sales presentations."
