Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We pretty much use the knowledge base. We feel that Microstrategy's community is a good forum to use.""There's extensive logging capabilities, if something is wrong then we are able to find out why.""It drives us away from Excel. For what it is for, it is good. You can't run a business on Excel.""On our mobile solution you can deploy up to 100,000 users. In our case, we're up to about 10,000 active users, and MicroStrategy's server technology behind the scenes, the Intelligence Server and the Mobile Servers, are very robust and they can handle the workload.""The architecture is very solid.""The technical support is quite good.""The implementation was fairly straightforward.""With the new version that's coming out, I think they have simplified a lot of things. Also, when it comes to the administration part, and sharing, and the collaboration features, they are really great. You can send out comments with a filter to someone in your organization, and if the person clicks on it, he actually sees what you are seeing. So that's really great."

"The most valuable feature is the visualization.""Both the vertical and horizontal scalability of the solution is good. In terms of scalability, I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.""Oracle OBIEE is very easy to use. Looking at analytics, I think they have come a long way by adding new features like visualization, which is really cool.""The most valuable feature is the reporting.""The most valuable feature of Oracle OBIEE is it's designed for Oracle. It works well in the Oracle environment and can sit on top of any application.""I like that Oracle OBIEE comes with more options. For example, more options with data security, user security, and other security. It's more complicated than Microsoft, but it gives you more options. They also added the part for machine learning, which is good.""It mostly supports enterprise level data. We have millions of records on a daily basis.""The scalability of the product is good."

More Oracle OBIEE Pros →

"It is useful to use a tool like this to have a view of data at a point in time. You can extract and create little data sets that you can store, and then over time, you can have a view for tracking changes. Especially when you work with a relational database or a database that's a production database, the data is dynamic, but if you use QlikView, you can take a snapshot of different datasets. In your own time, you can then get insights and report, build, analyze, and draw whatever you need from the data, which is quite useful.""The product’s most valuable feature is its ability to view the entire data available for analysis.""It's incredibly fast and can handle large volumes of data without slowing down our operations.""Easy to analyze data by click-through.""The solution is fast.""It has user-friendly data visualization features, supporting our decision-making process with its business intelligence capabilities""The most valuable aspect is its extensive library on Microsoft, providing a robust framework for implementation.""It excels in supporting database connections and various database types."

Cons
"There needs to be better visualization.""They need to improve the web.""The solution's reports are not very flexible.""Needs more visualizations out-of-the-box.""The graphs available for the new dashboard of version 10 are weak.""The solution's licensing could be improved because its cost is heavy on the pockets.""Needs more visual essence and connectors for the ecosystems, which would be easy to use.""I would like to see more integration."

More MicroStrategy Cons →

"An area for improvement is that Oracle pushes more users to Oracle BI Publisher rather than emphasizing Oracle OBIEE for reporting. The pricing for Oracle OBIEE could be improved.""The pricing model could be improved. Right now, it's quite confusing. Many customers have this feeling that it's a super-expensive option.""The platform's interface needs improvement.""n the beginning it had it's stability issues, but it became stable.""I would like to see enhancements in tracking, debugging, and flexibility.""The documentation in Oracle OBIEE can be more user-friendly.""If the data is large, the dashboard takes a really long time. So, based on the database, if you have around a million cost contacts, the load time is very low, and the dashboard fails.""BI Server"

More Oracle OBIEE Cons →

"For me, it is important to have a mix, what is the "view" and what is the "sense", Qlik Sense. They have two tools, but for me it is important to have only one tool, which combines the functions that we have from one side and the other side.""It needs work with visualization.""I really wish the application was easier to use in the development phase.""The solution should be mobile-responsive. It should also include drag-and-drop and slice-and-dice features.""Syntax editor needs some work, it's frustrating to have valid syntax being flagged as incorrect.""They could improve the update time.""The user interface is old.""The tool is expensive in Turkey."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "They made a change in the licensing module some time ago and we can now use all the enterprise tools for free."
  • "The pricing for MicroStrategy is always on the higher side. They should seriously start thinking about their pricing and licensing strategy."
  • "While initial cost of MicroStrategy is still on the higher side, the long-term benefits brings down overall cost of ownership significantly as compared to other tools like Tableau/Cognos."
  • "The price was good. We have had great support along the way."
  • "We actually researched some of the other solutions. For options, price, and customer acceptance, this product has worked well for us."
  • "They gave us a good deal."
  • "There have been actual direct bottomline impacts in terms of extra revenue created from the reporting solutions."
  • "They need to work on their license structure. They are not competitive against somebody like SAP BusinessObjects. We had a quote that was almost a third the price, coming from SAP BusinessObjects, and it's not a better platform. It's not cheaper. They do concurrent user licensing, while MicroStrategy does named user licensing, and that was literally the only difference. But it made a $500,000 difference. They've got to do something to make themselves more competitive. Maybe it's assessing your business users and what you really expect them to use, and maybe giving a reduced price on that. But they are already giving us a 60% discount and they were still a million or so above, over a three-year time period. That doesn't account for synergies as we get from on-site resources that are already available, but I thought that that was a big, big deficit for them."

  • "Oracle products are extremely expensive."
  • "This was not an expensive product for us, although the price varies depending on conditions for each company."
  • "The cost of this solution is a little bit high compared with other products like Zoho, so reducing it would make OBIEE more competitive."

  • "Pricing is a bit too high and I think licenses should be unlimited."
  • "QlikView pricing and licensing is on the high side for a small sized company, but it's competitive among its peers."
  • "Qlik is fairly high in terms of pricing."
  • "The pricing is too high compared to the other solutions on the market."
  • "It is not very expensive. I think it it is on par with other similar products on the market."
  • "The setup costs for QlikView are fair as are the yearly maintenance fees. The licensing becomes a bit more expensive and requires some planning for onboarding."
  • "It has an annual license. It is expensive as compared to other competitive tools that do more for less. In South African rands, we pay about 100,000 to 200,000 a year."
  • "On a scale of one to ten, where one being low price and ten being high price, I rate pricing a four."

    Reviews from Real Users

Sandeep V., Process System Engineer at a comms service provider, tells us, “This solution is very easy for people who are building ad-hoc things. It's an enterprise solution so it can be deployed for a lot of users. There are some great new features that come with the 12c like data visualization, desktop BI Publisher, automation, and interactive dashboards. The product has good features. “

A user who is a CEO at a consultancy relates, “The most valuable feature is the visualization. The data warehousing, data storage, and data wrangling are all features that are in there, and it's one of the better products out there. A good thing is that for large datasets, it's very stable, especially when you have an Oracle database.”

A user who is a Principal Business Intelligence Architect at a computer software company suggests, "It is very biased towards Oracle infrastructure. One of the major red flags we have at the moment against Oracle is that it doesn't support deployment on other cloud providers. We're quite heavily vested in AWS as our infrastructure, and Oracle is yet to formally support deploying on those virtual infrastructure instances. That's quite disappointing, and it also cuts them out of over 70% of the market."

QlikView is a Business Intelligence tool that allows you to keep tabs on all of your business-related information in a clean, clear, and easy to access database that is intuitive to build and simple to navigate. It is ideal for business owners who wish to improve overall output by creating the most productive system possible.
