We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I like the tool’s scalability and real-time reports. Earlier, we struggled to give real-time reports to clients. I also like the tool’s deployment model where we can deploy it either on-premises or in-house. We don’t have to carry the data all over the globe. Also, I am impressed with the tool's flow reporting and Wi-Fi.""The out of the box reports and workflows are pretty good and they meet our requirements well.""It's a great solution for highlighting and discovering useful information regarding our network's elements.""Scalability. I have never had to worry about how to handle really big environments.""One of the solution's biggest strengths is its capacity management performance, with out-of-the-box reports through NMS, as well as its ability to collect NetFlow-related data from devices. The collection of network performance and flow data is important because we have many critical business applications.""SevOne has rich API capabilities, giving us the flexibility to control what we collect and customize the collection, creation, and manipulation of now metrics as necessary.""One of the most valuable features is the graphs, which you can build instantly. I have used some open-source platforms in the past, but they are not as good. With SevOne, the sampling in the graph can be every few seconds, not just every few minutes, and that's really helpful. It's really fast.""It's given us the ability to create various real-time network performance reports and distribute them to any colleague who can access these reports immediately."

"An excellent solution that is easy and intuitive to implement.""I can monitor a software made in-house to software of bigger companies.""The most valuable feature is its support for different types of devices, where it can use all of the equipment that you need.""It is an open-source platform with valuable features for performance and stability.""The most valuable features of Nagios XI are you can customize it based on your use case and requirements. It is flexible and easy to integrate with our systems. You can customize the solution by adding additional features using code.""Nagios XI helps us monitor the bandwidth of the internet connection, HTTP, DNS, active directory services, and exchange data availability. We have multiple servers to monitor databases, availability of servers, and ping.""I can monitor a phone on a desk to very big servers of any company.""Nagios XI is stable."

"Real-time alerting is a very important feature. We need alerts for everything. We have alarms setup and get alerts through email or third-party integrations depending on what's happening – critical VMs, high CPU usage, security concerns."

Cons
"Would benefit with the addition of AI modules for proactive data insights.""The reporting of NMS is good, but it could be better.""The customizations are very hard. The person doing it has to be very good at analytics and has to be very good in all languages""We need to be thinking about streaming telemetry protocols. They already have the port for enhanced visualization, which they already have through Data Insight.""The GUI: both the dashboard/user view and the admin tool.""The tool needs improvement in non-Cisco SD-WAN.""User-friendly, multi-tenancy.""The reports are easy to configure but they are a bit outdated in terms of appearance and visualization."

More IBM SevOne Network Performance Management (NPM) Cons →

"They need more documentation for the plugins.""The PNP4Nagios plugin not working easily with XI is an issue for me, because some open source monitoring plugins do not work out of the box. But in the end, you learn to live with it.""It can be quite difficult to know which drivers and agents to use when setting up.""I would like to see support for notification via SMS.""Technical support is an area that needs improvement. It is not available 24/7.""Improve the documentation, examples, and best practices, therefore users can understand how to do things.""Open-source software is usually not user-friendly.""The technical support is variable - sometimes I get answers, but most of my tickets go unanswered."

"Third-party connectivity is the part that needs improvement within Oracle Infrastructure Monitoring Cloud Service."

Pricing and Cost Advice

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
