We performed a comparison between BDRSuite, NAKIVO Backup & Replication, and Veeam Backup & Replication based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Veeam Software, Zerto, Commvault and others in Backup and Recovery."When you're looking at your dashboard, you can see all your active jobs. You can see exactly if they're successful or failed and you can actually drill down and see what caused the problem. The fact you can see that right away is nice."
"The best part of BDRSuite is how user-friendly it is and how it does not require any maintenance after the initial setup."
"It helps me with restores. I can repeat a test multiple times: Do the test, the restore, and then test again. It saves me time because I don't have to rebuild the VMs every time."
"The automated backup of multiple virtual machines. We can back up two hypervisors, one is Microsoft Hyper-V and the other one is VMware Hypervisor."
"The best thing about it is that it has been adaptable to our business model. We are in industrial networking, and they were adaptable to give us offline installers and offline licenses. That has been the biggest thing. They also allow us to order the licenses on a perpetual basis."
"The Vembu BDR product is very intuitive and easy to use."
"It's easy to restore."
"It made it easy for us to handle the daily backup of endpoints."
"Backups are working smoothly with Nakivo Backup."
"It can be quickly configured via web pages."
"The virtual appliance for VMware vSphere is easy to deploy, easy to manage, and we have no need for additional Windows licenses."
"The upgrade process is manual but very simple to do."
"They reply immediately to any query raised from us as a technician or consultant and they know the pulse of the market and keep updating the features in such a big way."
"It has saved us numerous times from power outages and server failure."
"This is a user-friendly solution that has a lot of certifications and documentation for the Microsoft Hyper-V infrastructure."
"It is easy to manage all of the individual backup jobs, check the status every day, and it can even send an email to keep us informed."
"The whole replication aspect of the solution is excellent because it compresses the data so well."
"The most valuable feature is the ability to restore the VMs into a test environment."
"The peace of mind of the backup is very important. Incremental backups make it fast and easy to use. We can recover from any failures in case of any hardware failures or malware attacks. We can do a rollback and recover our services with a little downtime. We can rollback even in the case of unsuccessful updates."
"We have evaluated other solutions but Veeam is the best for virtualization."
"Instant Backup is an useful feature."
"It's not complex to replicate and back up the system."
"With regard to our operational requirements, Veeam is very good because it's so user-friendly."
"Its performance is fine. It supports us very well. It is able to support our policy for RTO, RPO, and other things that we need."
"There was one issue though with the hardware IDs. When I went to a different version of Hyper-V, the hardware IDs weren't restored and the machine got two new IDs. The preliminary unique IDs weren't restored, so I had to reactivate programs."
"The solution's UI and integrations could be better."
"They can work on their cloud solution. In these days, the data becomes too much and you have to back up a lot of data to the site. They could offer cheaper storage to their clients with the cloud, making this a single source of truth solution. In our project, we are using two service providers: One who offers our storage and another who offers the software. If they work on their cloud solution and can offer their clients lower prices for this type of storage, this would be a really good improvement."
"It's not that stable yet. Every two weeks, my backup will stop and I have to check it."
"BDRSuite could improve support for XenApp Citrix Backup."
"One thing that I reported with the backups: When there are accentuated characters in a path, then we can't restore documents into a folder. There is a bug with the restoration and restoring files with accentuated characters in the path. Hopefully, they have repaired this because otherwise we will restore files and find out that they are not there."
"For the more sophisticated backups that do not have a set backup process, procedures that are outside of the norm, it would be nice if we had more control and did not have to use their technical support. While they're very responsive and have always come through in a reasonable time frame, we would like to be able to manage everything on our own."
"The initial setup process can be more simplistic and quicker."
"In the future, it would be nice to have support for Zimbra email, Collabora Office, and the NextCloud content collaboration platform."
"It would be good to have some Oracle database backup capability from the Linux OS in the next release."
"The only thing I could say is maybe some more options for job scheduling are needed."
"Sometimes, for some VMs and some Windows Server versions, specifically old versions (aka server 12 or older) fail due to the VSS writer error or locking file system."
"I would like to have the option of creating a subfolder per job in the backup repository because we had an issue where some files were corrupted and we lost the backup of the majority of the VMs."
"In terms of what could be improved for the next release, I would probably answer better documentation and licensing models."
"So far, there is no version that supports Polish. If such a version existed, many customers in our region would decide to purchase and implement this solution."
"It could be a little bit faster in terms of backup and offer more reliable SQL server backups."
"The solution could improve by having a version to be compatible with the Linux system. They have improved the storage depository using the Linux proxy and Linux storage, but it can completely run on the Linux environment it would be much better."
"In terms of what can be improved, I would say they could add automations for disaster migrations and for reverse replication. Overall, they need more automation."
"Veeam Backup Replication has agents for Linux, but they are not supporting Cluster Shared Volumes. It would be great to have agents for Linux be cluster-aware, just like the Windows agents. That's the main pain point. In addition, we should be able to handle the automation of Oracle backups from the backup server. We should be able to schedule, control, and deploy them from the backup server rather than relying on scripts and/or the system you are backing up to perform the backup. Currently, we install the plug-in inside Oracle VMs and then use crontabs to handle the task schedule on each machine for scheduling the backups. Veeam Backup Replication should also support the automation of Nutanix backups from the backup server, not from the proxy. The other not so major thing is that they don't support legacy systems because Veeam is a new company. It is not as old as other companies. They don't support physical workloads that are really old, which a major challenge, but they do have a point. Legacy systems should be virtualized, and if they're virtualized, then the backup is not an issue with Veeam, but some customers like the physical setup, and they don't want to have it virtual."
"The reporting feature can be improved."
"It would be ideal if they could capture everything and then timestamp and back up everything up to that timestamp."
"I would like to see the licensing model improved. They have recently changed the model and have made it more complicated."
"The recovery and integration features of Veeam Backup Replication could improve. For example, all VM integration could improve, such as with Hyper-V and VMware."
"Integration with other equipment could be improved."
