We performed a comparison between IBM Spectrum Protect Plus, Infrascale Backup & Disaster Recovery, and Veeam Backup & Replication based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Veeam Software, Zerto, Commvault and others in Backup and Recovery."Some of the features we find very valuable and use a lot, are retention sets."
"This is a multi-platform backup solution where you can take a backup from AIX, Windows, or Linux servers and restore from CD, disk, or tape."
"Virtual snapshots that offer incremental backups."
"The most valuable features of the solution stem from the fact that the product works and helps with restoration areas whenever there is a need to restore something."
"The most valuable feature is how we can easily power speed up the VM even though the VM resides in remote storage."
"A full-featured data protection solution that is reliable and stable."
"With this product, we now have a reliable backup solution."
"The solution integrates well with other tools."
"For this particular client, the solution’s Critical Server Insurance feature that protects physical and virtual servers including Windows, Linux, VMware, and Hyper-V, was a very big factor as well. They have a bunch of physical servers, as well as virtual. The mix is predominantly virtual. They also have some NAS boxes that we back up using Infrascale."
"The Infrascale Dashboard is very easy to understand, has a good overview, and gives me access to all my appliances without having to have a local VPN connection to the individual clients. It makes it very easy to find my way around."
"The overall ease of use and ease of management of the solution using the Infrascale dashboard is excellent. I'd rate it 10 out of 10 because the dashboard is very simple to use. For someone with a technical background, it's a wonderful piece of software to be using in a cloud environment. But if you're not technical, then it might be a problem. It could be confusing for non-technical people. If you don't know what you're doing, you could kind of screw it up. Any human with two brain cells can do it. It's like anything else. So, once you train a human, they're good. Anybody can do it. Anybody with a competent brain can use it and go with a little bit of technical skill. It might be confusing in the beginning, but once you're trained up and you've used it a little bit, like anything else in your life, it'll be easy. They'll come as normal."
"Its Critical Server Insurance feature for protecting physical and virtual servers, including Windows, Linux, VMware, and Hyper-V is mandatory for me and it makes me happy. If I had a backup solution that didn't do that, it would not be a backup solution and would not be any good."
"Given that we are in the hurricane belt, the spin-up of replicated servers in the cloud is among the most valuable features. If our site goes down we can just connect to the cloud appliance, spin up the servers, and we are good to go."
"The recovery of data is the most valuable feature. The software backup, which is just a program that gets installed on a server, can back up to the cloud. You can install that on a server or PC, and that will simply back up a user's files and folders. If it is installed on the server, we just back up the relevant data. Recovering that, if there has been a malicious attack on a business or anything like that, has been invaluable in the past. The good features about that are obviously, if the physical hardware has a problem, then we can utilize the appliance, turn on the virtual machine, and carry on running the business while we put the hardware back and correct the issue."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is that it is simple to use."
"The most valuable feature is disaster recovery, where we have the ability to boot up VMs quickly in a disaster."
"Storage Snapshot is a good feature and very safe."
"Veeam communicates with the vCenter in VMware, which means it's very smooth and doesn't interrupt production on VMware and you can backup or restore anytime, anywhere."
"I can't think of any improvements yet for Veeam because they are very good. It integrates very well with Microsoft applications. It is very easy to integrate. Micro Focus can also integrate but it's more complex. You have to know the product very well to be able to integrate. While Veeam, it's very user-friendly. You don't need to have certifications or anything to work on Veeam."
"Replication is the most valuable feature."
"I consider the solution's technical support to be excellent, perfect."
"The most valuable feature of this solution is the recuperation of the weaker machines."
"The most valuable feature is the continuous backup."
"The peace of mind of the backup is very important. Incremental backups make it fast and easy to use. We can recover from any failures in case of any hardware failures or malware attacks. We can do a rollback and recover our services with a little downtime. We can rollback even in the case of unsuccessful updates."
"It still needs to grow and add new features. IBM Spectrum Protect Plus, I believe, requires time to become competitive due to a weakness in the other software products."
"There could be better integration with Spectrum Protect and Spectrum Protect Plus, it should be one solution."
"IBM Spectrum Protect Plus could improve the IBM Spectrum Protect environment. It can be difficult to administer. The initial configuration can be difficult for entry-level teams or deployment teams, and it might be difficult to integrate. There's just too much content involved in the solution. The documentation is way too large."
"I would like to see continuous data protection (CDP). If there is machine failure, you don't have to go to the backup copy that you took 12 hours ago. You can actually go back to the backup copy made half an hour ago. That is, it would be good to have certain-point-in-time recovery."
"You end up needing to do a lot of troubleshooting to get things to work effectively."
"I would like integration into where the VMware guys can do their own restores."
"The replication feature is not available."
"The Gui interface and usability are not so friendly and easy."
"They set me up as a vendor, not as a client. So sometimes I end up in the wrong portal and I'm doing vendor things instead of client things, and I didn't realize that right away. Once I figured it out I just changed my favorites on my desktop to go to the client-side."
"There could be some room for improvement in the on-premises hardware selection. It is hard for them to deploy a lot of different hardware options. Depending on footprint size and overall capabilities, that is where there could be some flexibility in some cases. However, it is not a deal-breaker."
"There is room for improvement by making the interface a little more intuitive when navigating to recover flat files or an old server."
"The pricing model that they recently changed to is a little bit complicated, and the biggest area for improvement is a better way of figuring out how to price it."
"Having options to replicate between their data centers, once the data is offsite, would be an improvement that they could make."
"They can always make the GUI a little bit nicer, the interface level a bit better. There's always room for improvement."
"I would like to be able to limit the bandwidth in cases, for example, where we are uploading the backup."
"The only thing I would suggest, and I have talked to my manager about it already, is that they should have a direct backup-to-cloud solution. It should be something that does not require me to do an image backup, and then individual file and folder backups, to be able to restore individual files."
"I have a problem with the VM. When we started doing a backup, it takes a snapshot for our virtual machines, but when we try it two or three times, in some cases, our virtual machines go to a consolidated state. I don't know why this problem happens. But I still think Veeam is a top-ranking solution."
"The more features the solution has the more complex it can be to set up. Veeam Backup & Replication can be complex."
"The initial setup is not always easy, and customers often need a lot of help to get Veeam up and running successfully."
"I have used NetBackup. For heavy workloads or if I need consistent backup and restore, I prefer NetBackup over Veeam Backup Replication."
"The price is an issue. If one has a large number of servers, say... 100-plus, and wishes to add more, an exhausted budget may hinder this ability."
"Veeam Backup is not enhanced. There aren't any enhancements yet and they are still using traditional methods for snapshots and to perform the backup, like many other vendors. Another improvement would be simplifying and integrating their software."
"There needs to be more integration with VMware and the virtual machine."
"If a single file is corrupt then the restoration of the entire backup will fail."
