We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Apigee makes proxy management very simple.""Items around the mobilization of the API interface and the ability to automate validations for our APIs are the most valuable aspects.""A simple platform that's easier to work with than IBM API Connect. Support for it is really good and gives it advantage over other providers.""It nice and easy for the clients and those using the product to access the product's help resources.""I like implementing different policies, for example, rate-limiting policy.""Apigee Analytics dashboard is useful to monitor transactions, error percentage, transaction latency, etc.""Apigee is a great product with good feedback and recommendations from clients.""It has all the features necessary to work in anything from a basic scenario to advanced applications."

More Apigee Pros →

"There's drag and drop functionality so that you do not need to have a senior expert developer to make use of the tool. You can get more of your staff trained up to be able to use it as it's not overly technical.""This platform can be highly scalable.""I don't believe the Salesforce has been fully utilized yet. It gives us quick engagement.""The API portal capability is a valuable feature.""The best feature of Axway Amplify API Management is its exceptional level of security, which is highly reassuring, coupled with its remarkable capacity to handle substantial volumes of data in impressively efficient turnaround times.""This product is a ten when it comes to API management.""We like the portal for documentation a lot.""The most valuable feature of the solution is security."

More Axway AMPLIFY API Management Pros →

"The control that we have and the security features are very valuable. With regard to API implementation or API orchestration, it works very well in the cloud because as soon as you create an API with one click, you can actually expose your APIs.""The platform's most valuable features are its capabilities to support security measures such as tokenization, token refresh, throttling, and enforcement of payloads.""When we did the product evaluation, we saw that TIBCO Mashery offers end-to-end API life cycle management. It provides all API features that are required for managing the complete life cycle. It includes the developer portal and tools for API monitorization. The out-of-box security features that TIBCO Mashery provides are enterprise-grade, which gives it an edge over other API products.""This has provided a new stream of traffic and exposure of our catalogue beyond the normal web store offering.""The solution is a good general API manager. They have a few propriety features but are offering items that are standard in the industry as well.""The reason why we selected the solution originally was because of its ability to have a gateway both on-premise and in the cloud. This is the most valuable aspect of the solution for us.""We can completely manage the APIs at the org level and BU (business unit) level.""The most valuable feature is the ability to have different packages based on the API keys. The same core system can have different packages based on different environments."

Cons
"Unlike WSA, Apigee does not have a partnership model, something which makes it a bit easier for companies such as ours to go with the former solution.""The cost of the solution is quite high.""I would like to see better integration and some architectural improvements in future releases of the solution.""I'd like this solution to improve on releasing new features; I'd like it to be more frequent.""Google isn't enthusiastic about supporting older versions. Google is now trying to move all of its clients to X within the cloud.""An area for improvement would be to provide more information while troubleshooting.""Compared to its competitors, such as Axway AMPLIFY API Management and Layer7 API Management, Apigee could benefit from having more policies to cater to various use cases. This would reduce the need for writing custom JavaScripts. If more features come straight out of the box, we can leverage them instead of writing custom code to achieve the same functionality.""It needs predictive analysis of consumption."

More Apigee Cons →

"This solution does have some limitations regarding the deployment model.""The product shows a lack of maturity. The setup is difficult, the tech support and community are lacking, and it is not very stable.""Sometimes we find bugs where certain calls are not returning all the data we need.""Areas of improvement include marketing and enhancing the data products area by using ETIs.""The API Mocking tools need to be improved.""It would be great if they have an asset report. It's hard to get support for that.""Team management capabilities could be improved.""The portal still has room for improvement."

More Axway AMPLIFY API Management Cons →

"TIBCO Cloud API Management should improve its installation and make it easy.""Policy management has been a bit of a concern.""The way agile life cycle is working needs improvement. I also want to see more support for open API standards. I want to see some improvement on the protocol transformation. That is quite missing now. These are the three main issues.""We observed delays under heavy load conditions, and without proper tuning, changes could take an extended period to filter and become effective.""It lacks many features at the API gateway compared to other solutions.""They can fix some stability issues and probably make it more user-friendly so that not only an IT savvy person but an end-user can also easily navigate through this solution.""The security needs improvement, specifically, propagation of security to an API. Calling other APIs is something that is missing in the product and that makes us think about going to a competitor.""The management console of API and customers' applications are not the most intuitive."

  • "It is not suited for small companies. It's expensive."

    Overview

Apigee is a platform for developing and managing APIs. Apigee offers an interface for your core services by wrapping them with a proxy layer which is then accessed by other developers. With Apigee, you can design and build APIs and then securely share their services and data without exposing any code.

Because app developers make HTTP requests to an API proxy rather than directly to your services, your services are separated from the developers. All the developer needs to know is the URL of the API proxy endpoint, necessary query parameters, authorization credentials (if they exist), and the response data format.

The API proxy isolates the app developer from your backend service. Therefore, you are free to change the service implementation if the public API remains consistent. By maintaining a consistent frontend API, existing client apps will continue to work regardless of changes on the backend.

Key capabilities of the Apigee API management platform include:

    • Security: Protect APIs, messages, and backends with configurable policies such as OAuth, API key verification, XML/JSON threat protection, and access control.

    • API gateway: Secure and mediate the traffic between clients and backends, and between a company’s APIs and the developers who use the APIs.

    • Developer portal: Attract and engage application developers, enabling them to discover, explore, purchase, and test APIs and register to access and use the APIs.

    • API console: The console helps developers learn and work with APIs.

    • API lifecycle management: Manage the process of designing, developing, publishing, deploying, and versioning APIs.

    • Automated documentation: Automate the development of API documentation and software development kits.

    • Machine learning: Utilize machine learning and analytics to generate actionable insights and reports.
    • API monitoring: Apigee offers monitoring tools for API troubleshooting, security, and optimization.

    Reviews from Real Users:

Apigee stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. Several major ones are its rich developer portal, its advanced analytics, and its central monitoring system.

Carlos R., a software architect at Caja Los Andes writes, “The central monitoring feature is the most valuable. It also provides security for the APIs and high availability for our use cases. Apigee is the best product in the industry in comparison to other API management solutions. It helps in fast development, which is a top point. It also supports a lot of industry standards and has excellent documentation.”

An associate vice president at a tech services company notes, “The analytics function and the developer portal are the two valuable features of Apigee. The analytics part is very good, and the developer portal is quite rich in features. The authentication mechanisms are quite easily built into Apigee, which is something that most of the other products have also now started supporting.”

Axway API Management Plus combines API lifecycle management, secure integration services, monitoring and analytics to help you innovate faster and heighten ecosystem engagement. It is part of the Axway AMPLIFY data integration and engagement platform, which also includes unified app development for mobile to provide a complete solution for rapid change and innovation.

APIs are critical business assets that form the foundation of digital business enabling new business models, improved operational efficiency, and connected customer experiences. TIBCO Cloud API Management empowers users to maximize the business value of their APIs products through an end-to-end solution that provides full lifecycle API management alongside capabilities for API discovery, implementation and analytics that speed business value realization across your digital ecosystem.
