We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"What I found most valuable in Amazon CloudWatch is that it gives you detailed information, which I found helpful because it can even provide you with data for the past one minute, which is quite granular. That was what helped me most in terms of finding the root causes. Task automation is another valuable feature of Amazon CloudWatch.""It is a robust analytical tool and it goes beyond mere functionality and extends into the realm of providing comprehensive insights.""Most of it's around optimizing utilization, their cloud utilization. They're making sure that they're getting the most out of their in-cloud environments and their instances. Making sure that there's no strange behavior in the environment.""Our team finds it overall quite useful.""I have found the memory metrics and the CPU metrics valuable.""The initial setup is easy.""The tool's UI is good. One can scroll through the logs very easily.""We can set CPU thresholds using the solution."

"By allowing end users to request their own services, the request process for systems is much quicker and more accurate.""CLM has a multi-cloud portal because they have the resources to implement in various environments in various ports.""Assesses change impact or completes an audit using multiple dashboard views.""Integrates role-based access control with pre-configured policies for CIS, DISA, HIPAA, PCI, SOX, NIST, and SCAP documentation and remediation.""Supports unattended installs and image-based, script-based, or template-based provisioning.""You can tie together your public and private cloud infrastructure into a "single pane of glass".""Automates Java EE Application Deployment from an SCM system."

Cons
"The solution's integration could be easier for laypersons.""I would like to monitor inbound and outbound transfer. I would also like to control the traffic for load balancing.""CloudWatch doesn’t monitor disk throughput by default.""The solution's auto-scaling could be improved.""What would make Amazon CloudWatch better is if it includes more on-site checks, particularly status checks on the CPU, network input/output, etc. It would also be helpful if there's built-in swap space, disk, and memory monitoring in Amazon CloudWatch because, at the moment, my team has to configure it manually through a shell script.""The graphical interface has room for improvement. CloudWatch only gives you a breakdown of what's wrong. However, it would be nice if it could automatically remedy the problems it identifies. You should be able to configure it so that when a specific condition arises, it will take a predefined action.""For monitoring applications or for APM, CloudWatch has some limitations. You cannot monitor application performance from CloudWatch, and you have to go for a third-party tool.""The solution could benefit from a price decrease."

More Amazon CloudWatch Cons →

"The installation and configuration can be tricky due to it being built on Remedy.""Needs integrations with other providers to provide a custom public cloud environment.""One of the major problems is that support is not so good."

More BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management Cons →

"We would like to monitor other touchpoints such as ATM machines. It would be great if it can provide monitoring of ATM machines. Compatibility with other products would also be great.""The graphical user interface could be customized a little bit more, and also the dashboard could be more friendly.""Documentation terminology could be improved.""The server monitoring could be better.""There are a lot of areas for improvement, specifically in the dashboards and reports functionalities.""The reports are not great and should be improved.""Zabbix does not draw automatic mapping of the network, this is something they should add in the future. There is a lot of effort that is involved in tailoring some of the settings which could be made easier.""The System Center Operations Manager can be improved."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
