We performed a comparison between Mendix, OpenShift, and Oracle Java Cloud Service based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about OutSystems, Mendix, Salesforce and others in Mobile Development Platforms."The most valuable features of Mendix are the drag and drop functions, the data entities, domain models, and all the related features."
"It is a brilliant solution."
"Mendix code and coding logic are very visual. It looks like a flow chart rather than lines of code. Rapid development is what drew us to Mendix."
"We find it intuitive and easy to use."
"The most valuable features are the integration and UI customization."
"It is low code, where the developers can still develop in Java. That to us is very appealing."
"The initial setup is easy."
"They are leading in the smart manufacturing, and connectivity space."
"I have seen a return on investment, and it depends upon the types and the nature of some of the most critical applications that have been hosted on the OpenShift infrastructure."
"I like OCP, and the management UI is better than the open-source ones."
"Its security is most valuable. It's by default secure, which is very important."
"Valuable features include auto-recreate of pod if pod fails; fast rollback, with one click, to previous version."
"Overall, the solution's security throughout the stack and software supply chain is excellent."
"Excellent GUI support, so one does not need to use the command line client for almost any tasks. Great support for building images directly from Git repositories with hooks."
"OpenShift is based on Kubernetes and we try to use all the Kubernetes objects of OpenShift. We don't use features that are specific to OpenShift, except internal certificates for the services. The one feature that is missing from Kubernetes and that is really useful in OpenShift is the lifecycle of the cluster and the ease of installation. We use VMware and VMware integration internally with the OpenShift installer, which is very good. With OpenShift it's easy to spin up or scale out a cluster."
"The solution is easy to scale."
"The automated features of auto-purging in 12c helps clear disk space on a routine basis."
"One key feature is getting to choose the Virtual Machine configurations while setting up the server, which is an automated process."
"Cloud has provided less maintenance."
"Backing up and recovery for my domain is very easy and fast. In addition, applying patches and undoing applied patches is effective and easy to do."
"The framework supports auto-configuration. A lot of features are already there. It is reliable and user-friendly to develop code, back-end engineering, or locate specific information such as addresses."
"The solution's technical support is good."
"The ability to manage security and access the server from any location with complete security using SSH is perfect for performing crucial tasks, even while travelling."
"The auto-backup, incremental backup and restoration features can be invaluable for management."
"What is lacking is the support of higher level modeling features, like the modeling you do is relatively low level, yet it is still close to programming. We would like to see a more business-oriented modeling environment, like BPMN."
"My understanding is that, if you are not using the free version, it is very expensive."
"Mendix is slightly less scalable than I'd like."
"Feature-wise and in terms of technical aspects, Mendix is excellent, but its pricing is steep."
"I would like to see more documentation as well as how-to documents."
"I struggle with solutions like Mendix in terms of creating enterprise solutions."
"I would also like to see automatic adjustment to the Java Heap, whenever an application load becomes too much for the application. It could also use hot database replication."
"There's no direct tech support."
"We experienced issues around desktop security, that stopped us implementing a new feature that had been developed."
"The solution only offers support for one server."
"Documentation and technical support could be improved. The product is good, but when we raise a case with support—say we are having an image issue—the support is not really up to the mark. It is difficult to get support... When we raise a case, their support people will hesitate to get on a call or a screen-sharing session. That is a major drawback when it comes to OpenShift."
"The software-defined networking part of it caused us quite a bit of heartburn. We ran into a lot of problems with the difference between on-prem and cloud, where we had to make quite a number of modifications... They've since resolved it, so it's not really an issue anymore."
"Autoscaling is a very unique feature, but it could be useful to have more options based on traffic statistics, for example, via Prometheus. So, there should be more ready solutions to autoscale based on specific applications."
"OpenShift can improve monitoring. Sometimes there are issues. Additionally, the solution could benefit from protective tools if something was to happen in our network."
"OpenShift could improve by providing the ability to integrate with public cloud platforms. This way we can easily use the services that these platforms offer. For instance, Amazon AWS. However, all the three major hyper-scalers solutions offer excellent DevOps and CI/CD tooling. If there was an easy way to integrate with them it would be beneficial. We need a way to easily integrate with the monitoring and dashboard services that they provide."
"The monitoring part could be better to monitor the performance."
"There are issues with the application's development, including small glitches and errors."
"Needs better integration with other Oracle/non-Oracle products."
"The product is satisfactory but we need more training on managing the machine itself. For example, how do we add more storage, how do we extend a specific portion? I would like to see videos illustrating some of the technical tasks that we often need to do."
"The product's high price is an area of concern where improvements are required."
