HPE StoreOnce Review

We switched to HP because we needed a VTL solution with deduplication.


What is most valuable?

VTL with deduplication because with deduplication, you can have spare storage space.

What needs improvement?

Interoperability with other vendors backup software.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used it for two and a half years.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

In the beginning, we had a lot of problems with bad firmware.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We had problems with the various firmware versions.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

No issues scaling the product.

How are customer service and technical support?

Customer Service:

It is very high.

Technical Support:

Customer service is very high.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did, and we switched because we needed a VTL solution with deduplication.

How was the initial setup?

It was simple, especially to integrate it with our existing EMC network solution.

What about the implementation team?

We implemented it in-house.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We also looked at EMC DataDomain. We chose StoreOnce because it was cheaper by more than 60,000 Euros.

We've evaluated StoreOnce (small StoreOnce 2900 model) and got decent dedupe ratio for quite heterogeneous environment. We are considering complete transition from tape to VTL or use for the primary backup pool. File share function with dedupe is a nice add-on. Similar functionality like DataDomain but with lower price...
