What is our primary use case?
I usually deal with marketing and I use IBM Predictive Analytics for data mining. At this time, we are not using it because we are working with another company in a niche area with a specialized algorithm in artificial intelligence.
Our most recent use case was related to the proposition of promotions for clients. Based on the contact history and other information, we would predict the next best offer for that client. We had another one that was related to real-time marketing based on a person's past behavior on a website. A third was in a contact center and it was used to anticipate certain customer actions in order to reduce the rate of complaints.
What is most valuable?
The most valuable feature is the predictive capability in marketing use cases.
What needs improvement?
I found it very hard to change the algorithm that is used for prediction and I think that this solution can be more flexible. It looks like more of a black box in some cases and there are few ways to intervene and specify actions.
Using IBM Predictive Analytics requires more skill, resources, and training than some other solutions.
In the next release of this solution, I would like to see better integration with business solutions so that the data can be more easily accessed.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Predictive Analytics for the last four or five years. However, I am not currently using it.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
When they are working with and elaborating a lot of data, it is difficult to fine-tune this solution to stability.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The volume of transactions that we handled was managed by the base subscription.
How are customer service and technical support?
I would rate technical support a six out of ten.
Compared to other companies like Salesforce, I found that IBM lacked support for professional services. Not in terms of skill, but responsiveness. It may be because it is a larger company and there is a disconnect between the salespeople and the professional services. When you are a consultant, you more often work with the sales team as opposed to the support team, which could be one of the issues we faced.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We are not currently using IBM Predictive Analytics. We switched to another solution because of the flexibility, as well as the ease of changing the predictive algorithm.
How was the initial setup?
This solution can be deployed both on-premises or in a cloud-based environment.
What about the implementation team?
We are a consulting company and we have our own team that implements this solution for our clients.
What other advice do I have?
My advice for anybody who is considering this solution is to start with a PoC to train the people, and to make sure that professional services are available during the implementation. Essentially, do the PoC with the assistance of professional services.
Overall, this is a good product, but there are some features that need to be improved and it should be more flexible to use.
I would rate this solution a seven out of ten.
