IBM Rational Functional Tester Review

Quiet stable but it has memory issues frequently

What is most valuable?

It supports:

  • Siebel
  • SAP
  • Terminal based applications

What needs improvement?

Reports - Default results log has a lot of useless info, and this is hiding the actual information needed. I have to use customized reports, which we don't expect from paid tool.

For how long have I used the solution?

Eight months.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

Installation is straight forward.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Quiet stable but it has memory issues frequently, which can be solved easily.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is able to handle volume.

How are customer service and technical support?

Customer Service:

Haven't contacted customer service so far.

Technical Support:

Good, encountered a problem and a solution was provided by tech support within a couple of days.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were replacing an expensive solution - Worksoft Certify.

How was the initial setup?

Installation is straight forward.

What about the implementation team?

In-house team.

What was our ROI?

It's cheaper than our existing solution, Worksoft Certify

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Organization bought the whole Rational Suite at a very low price.

What other advice do I have?

It does not fully justify being a paid tool, and it needs improvement. But as it is built on Ellipse/Java and costs is less than other tools, it is recommended.
