Micro Focus Network Management Center Review

Easy to use, powerful and flexible. However there are bugs to work through.

HP Network Automation

I give HP Network Automation 5 stars, maybe 7 - yes, I know it is that good!

Use Of Solution:

8 years

Valuable Features:

  1. It's ease of use - this was the main reason it was selected at one client and a factor at the other.
  2. It's power / flexibility. It has an excellent API to allow you to do most anything you could want - the sky is the limit.

Improvements To Organization:

Clients are always excited to be able to easily push out changes and ensure that all configurations are in-line to the defined standards via the audit function and built-in reporting.

Room For Improvement:

There are bugs to work through along the way.

Deployment, Stability, Scalability Issues:

Deployment is quite simple. Scalability has not been a problem. Stability has only been a problem when I have exceeded vendor recommendations and not made recommended system changes.

Previous Solutions:

Cisco Ciscoworks. Most companies have had this and replace it with HP Network Automation as it is very easy for users to work with and can handle a heterogeneous environment easily.

Alternate Solutions:

Customer Service and Technical Support

It is on par or better than other vendors support. They have really made an effort to improve and are working hard to deliver great support on every level.

Initial Setup:

It's rather simple. Adding in gateways can be a bit complex, but not too bad.

Implementation Team:

I've done both - first with vendor, then after that it's been in-house.

Other Advice:

Make sure your network team(s) is / are aware of the work you will be doing, as you will need their help (firewall rules, credentials, etc). Work with the engineers and ensure they able to fully take advantage of the power of Network Automation.

Hi Chris Powers. Which type of bugs you encountered while using this product?

I'd say lately it's more on the core side rather than driver side. They've had some issues with multimaster / hs environments, but think they are really improving.

To me, all software has bugs, the key is how quickly they are resolved and how responsive the vendor is. I'd say HP does a great job.
