Nexenta Review

Tech support is outsourced. Has allowed us to consolidate our server and VDI workloads onto one storage system.

What is most valuable?

At the time, it was a great way to get a proper SAN solution for a good price. We would have paid double for an EqualLogic system with 1/100 of the performance. With ZFS caching, we could handle over 20,000 IOPS on this system. The Dell solution cost $30,000 more and could only handle around 6000 IOPS.

How has it helped my organization?

Allowed us to consolidate our server and VDI workloads onto one storage system without any issues.

What needs improvement?

Lots of tweaks had to be done in order to get everything working right, and support is now outsourced and horrible.

For how long have I used the solution?

Five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Not really. No unexpected downtime.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

How is customer service and technical support?

At first, I would give it a 10 out of 10. Now, I would say more around two out of 10.

How was the initial setup?

It’s easy, if you are familiar with ZFS already. If not, it's still pretty easy.

What other advice do I have?

It's better to look at some of the newer storage companies (Tegile, Tintri, etc.).
