Oracle Zero Data Loss Recovery Appliance Review

Creates cost optimization by eliminating required backup agent licenses

What is our primary use case?

  • Reduce data loss (zero or sub-seconds) and backup overheads (offloading backups).
  • Cost optimization by eliminating required backup agent licenses.

What is most valuable?

  • Real-time redo transport
  • Autonomous tape archival
  • Incremental forever backup strategy
  • End-to-end data validation
  • DB level protection policies
  • Cloud scale architecture, etc.

How has it helped my organization?

One of the current challenges: More than 60TB database, weekly backup taking over two days, and incremental is almost over eight hours. This is extremely resource consuming with a lot of backup duration, etc. Recovery also becomes tough. The one time backup with incremental forever should release us from this pain.

What needs improvement?

We need more time to discover the cons of the product. For example, We need to test all the recovery scenarios to ensure we really lose no data.

For how long have I used the solution?

Less than one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Not available.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Not available.

How are customer service and technical support?

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We used third party tape based backup solutions. Performance, backup duration and recovery complexity caused us to switch to ZDLRA.

How was the initial setup?

Requires Oracle's assistance.

What about the implementation team?

We implemented through Oracle and the vendor.

What was our ROI?

Above expected.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

ZDLRA eliminates agent based licensing, which provides cost saving.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Yes, other solutions. However, being an Oracle product, ZDLRA delivers far better than the other solutions.

What other advice do I have?

Need to fully test with the recovery capabilities with different situations.

Which version of this solution are you currently using?
