PernixData FVP [EOL] Review

It increased the performance of our legacy SAN while decreasing its load.

Valuable Features:

The analytic data that is reported using PernixData Architect is by far the best storage metrics we have been able to gather on our environment.  PernixData FVP increased the performance of our legacy SAN while decreasing its load.

Improvements to My Organization:

Architect has reduced our time in troubleshooting infrastructure verses application issues.  We can tell real time on a per virtual machine basis if there is an underlying storage performance issue that needs to be addressed.

FVP has saved millions of IOPS from being served off of our array and therefor decreased traffic sent, all while lowering latency to our VMs.

Room for Improvement:

In moving from the version 2 to version 3 of the product the console was moved from vsphere client to an independent HTML5 interface.  While the new interface is a step forward, I believe this transition focused more on the per VM basis and the holistic environment metrics are not as easy to view.

Use of Solution:

For nearly 2 years.

Deployment Issues:

Deployment is fairly straight forward and can be done in a trial period for 30 days.

Stability Issues:

The product is stable and if there are any issues they will be addressed swiftly by the PernixData support team.

Scalability Issues:

Scalabilty issues are practically non existent with FVP as you may use RAM, NVMe, or Flash media in a scale out fashion to increase performance.

Previous Solutions:

Previous to PernixData we did not have a solution for analytic data or host side acceleration.

Initial Setup:

The setup entails a management server, vmware installation bundle, and acceleration media(FVP only).

Implementation Team:

We setup our FVP cluster and have multiple deployments completed for customers.

Other Advice:

I would no longer recommend this product since the company has been bought by Nutanix and the brand is effectively being killed off.

Disclosure: My company has a business relationship with this vendor other than being a customer: We are a PernixData Customer and Partner.
