SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud Review

Flexible with minimum downtime and regular scheduled updates

What is our primary use case?

Similar to Google and AWS platforms, SAP has its own cloud and we use it for deploying ERP systems on top of the cloud. Most of our clients need to move to the cloud with preconfigured items.

Our specialization is the migration of the entire SAP ERP on-premise solutions to the Cloud.

What is most valuable?

The solution does provide quite a lot of support, upgrades, automated batch updates, etc.

It's a more flexible platform for the customers who are looking for ready-made solutions and support.

It is managed and supported by SAP.

There's a minimum amount of downtime when using the solution. This platform is very effective.

The most important aspect of the solution is the feed. If a company manages heavy enterprise applications and they need to generate a C level report, specifically for CEO or CFO level reporting and financial budget reports, it's very good. While on-prem takes a long time, this solution is ten times faster.

The customers get upgrades every quarter. There's often zero downtime for the customer because the upgrades will happen at night or over the weekends and will happen through the cloud.

What needs improvement?

The customer has a lot of dependencies on SAP which means they don't have much flexibility to go and update the system when or if they need to. They will need to wait for the quarterly updates. It's possible to maybe raise a special request with SAP if it is absolutely necessary.

Occasionally, we're not able to provide the services our client wants. SAP should offer some flexibility in terms of configuration modifications. Some activities should be able to be performed by the service provider.

There's a concern about the localization of the data centers. For Dubai based customers, there's a lot of concern about the location of them. We need our own local data centers to manage all of the services. These platforms should be flexible enough based on the region. For example, in Europe, there's GDPR, but in the Middle East, this shouldn't apply.

SAP charges for third party integrations, and this shouldn't be the case. There should be simpler integrations with third-party platforms.

For how long have I used the solution?

Our company has been using the solution for approximately five or six years. I've personally worked with SAP for 15 years now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We haven't heard of any issues with stability. Our clients haven't complained about having any issues. It's good, as far as we can tell.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is a bit of an issue. It needs to be improved.

Right now, we have 1,000 users on the solution. It's used mostly for large-scale enterprises in the government sector and defense.

How are customer service and technical support?

We've been 100% satisfied with technical support. They've been great. Our customers are extremely satisfied as well.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. It's not complex at all.

What about the implementation team?

There is 100% dependency on the system integrators. There are a lot of interfaces that are run by the customers. The landscape can be complex and it is not a straightforward cloud migration model. If a client has a lot of interfaces and there are a lot of dependencies on the third-party systems within the landscape, system integrators will be required for sure.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It's a bit expensive compared to lead other platforms because the support is directly from SAP.

The solution offers yearly contracts as well as three and five-year contracts that are a little bit less expensive. Technical support is included in the pricing.

There are, however, integrations and third-party tools that need to be taken into the cloud and the solution charges extra for those.

What other advice do I have?

We're providing services on this solution.

If a company is looking for the latest innovations, products from SAP are what they will want. There are also seamless integrations. It is a really good product.

I'd rate the solution nine out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?
