Veeam Backup & Replication Review

It's provided us with a file-level recovery option and it's stable, efficient, and flexible.

What is most valuable?

The file-level recovery option has filled a gap in our system.

What needs improvement?

  • Remote management console
  • Physical server backups

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used it for about three or so years.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

No issues encountered.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product has been 100% stable, but there are a few issues with backup jobs.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

No issues yet.

How are customer service and technical support?

Customer Service:

I've not had to contact customer service.

Technical Support:

They have very efficient, problem-solving chaps.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I was using Symantec, but it's not as flexible as Veeam if you talk about immediate recovery of file or a whole VM.

How was the initial setup?

It's as simple as installing MS Office.

What about the implementation team?

I was previously working as a project engineer with my company, implementing Veeam at many clients. I am now working as a Resident Engineer and IT Consultant outsourced from my original employer (implementation vendor). Both ways I have had good experiences with Veeam.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Don’t waste your money on Symantec or other tools. Buy a license once for Veeam as it's a lifetime one and the support license can be renewed, as required, on a yearly basis.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We also looked at Symantec Backup Exec.

What other advice do I have?

Just keep in mind its functionality because, as of now, it is limited to VMs. It's taking backup of physical machines as well, but only on a clone level.
