Veritas Volume Replicator [EOL] Review

Good for DR, but Oracle Dataguard has improved since 9i. One advantage to the is that you can use VVR on all d

What is most valuable?

The ability to replicate volumes between sans with a few commands, this made server migrations easy. We also have little tolerance for down time and being able to do operations on line, including replicating production data enabled us to perform many changes and migrations with little production downtime.

How has it helped my organization?

It was our DR solution for Oracle databases for 7 years.

What needs improvement?

Slow GUI on remote sites. We had issues when some config changes had to be done in remote data centers.

For how long have I used the solution?

We used this solution for approximately 7 years. We have moved away from it recently due to our decommissioning of SANS.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

No.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Occasional bugs, but nothing of concern.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

No.

How are customer service and technical support?

Customer Service:

Excellent, we had on sight SME for new releases, migrations that knew the product well.

Technical Support:

Excellent as well.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

This. was our first DR solution. We used it due to the the low RPO and RTO.

How was the initial setup?

Setup is straight forward. There are definitely some settings that might be missed when using this product, but once parameters have been determined set up is the same.

What about the implementation team?

We implemented through a vendor team. Their level of expertise was outstanding. After a few vendor implementation our own in house team supported the product and did subsequent implementations.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Oracle Data guard.
