As to whether the solution gets deployed on a public cloud or on-premises, I would like to say that Acronis Backup requires data backup to be saved on Acronis Cloud Storage. However, the decision of where to store the backup depends solely on the requirement of the customers or end users. Based on their preference, they may choose to store the backup locally, on their network drive, on their cloud server, or on Acronis Cloud Storage. Ultimately, the location of the backup storage is determined by the customer's needs.

Thanks to Acronis, setting it up is incredibly easy. Even for someone with no technical experience, it's a breeze. As a partner, when I introduce the product to customers, it only takes me an hour or two to explain how it works. Acronis has a user-friendly interface that can be operated in just a few steps.

The amount of time needed to deploy in larger environments typically takes up to five hours, depending on the number of users, machines, and servers involved. For example, it took less than five hours to deploy Acronis on 20 servers, 50 virtual machines, and 100 workstations using the tools provided by Acronis such as unattended installation and network Discovery.

I don't need many resources to install Acronis Backup. Generally, the basic requirements for either a server or PC are enough. Acronis covers almost all platforms so there are no special requirements. The amount of space needed for installation is also not excessive.

Initial setup would be straightforward if I had read the directions. Let's put it that way. I just went ahead and installed it when I got the package. I ran the setup and took the defaults. Here is the way this works: There's a backup manager and you're supposed to manage all your backups from there. Then, there's a backup service that runs on each computer that you're backing up.

What I didn't understand when I set this up is I was installing a different manager on each computer. I had to go to every one to do the backups and I said, "This isn't right, there's got to be a way around." What I found out is, if I had read the directions, they would have said, "Well, you can run the backup manager on a central computer or you can run it in the cloud, or you can run it on each separate computer.” The third option doesn't give you any centralization.

I needed some help from them to change over from what I did and get it all in one computer. They were able to help me in one chat. They told me exactly what to do and when I did that, it worked. All of a sudden, the light bulb lit up about how this works.

There's good documentation on the Acronis Cyber Protect website on how to do things, plus the training courses that we took from its portal. They really help. We also have support from the product's presales engineers. They always support us whenever we run into a problem.

For a Microsoft 365 backup plan, the deployment process typically takes around half an hour, where we explain to the customer how things are done. However, the duration of backup plans involving endpoint devices with Acronis Cyber Protect varies based on the organization's size.

A considerable amount of resources is needed for massive deployments in large organizations. This is particularly true when the devices are not centralized in a managed platform, meaning they are not joined to an active directory or MDM solution. In such cases, the tool's agent must be installed on each device individually, or network scanning may be attempted, but it often proves ineffective. Joining the devices to an MDM or an active directory streamlines the deployment process. Otherwise, having a list of users and installing the agent individually for each one becomes necessary.

We had two to three instances where the users had complained that the agents made the systems slow.

Acronis Backup has a straightforward initial setup process and an easy-to-use interface. However, a potential issue for Acronis partners is that registered partners do not have access to marketing materials, which can make it difficult for them to reach mass markets and sell the product. This could be improved by allowing registered partners to access marketing materials and tools, such as email templates, that would help them to promote Acronis Backup effectively.

The TrueImage versions are super easy to install. The initial setup is really easy if you know what you're doing. You just have to download it from the web, run it, and install it. It's very straightforward, there's nothing really difficult about it. The only little technical bit comes with the Cyber Cloud versions where you now have to install a Cyber Cloud console, and then you have to create a backup job and you have to assign the backup job to a computer. For an average person, that would be slightly tricky to do, whereas a reseller or a service provider could easily do that.

Deployment on one machine only takes a few minutes. You literally select the product you're going to install from the cyber console, download the agent, install the agent on the computer, create the backup job, and then link the backup job to the agent. It probably takes about 10 minutes to set up the whole thing.

Setting up the backup server is quite a complex process. There is a bit of a learning curve. You have to make sure that all your services are up and that the actual machine is up and running. If the machine goes down, then you won't have any visibility into what is actually happening.

The installation of the product is not as hard as the configuration process. For instance, the licensing can be quite daunting because you still need a cloud license or access to a cloud portal. This is the old legacy portal where you have to upload the license file and then register it directly from there or download a registered file that you can upload onto the machine. This would then activate the machine. If you only want to do a local backup or backup to local storage, it will work fine. However, if you try to attach cloud storage to it, then another level of complexity will come into play.

It is straightforward to set up and very user-friendly. The cloud solution is very simple as is the on-premise. There's not very much complexity. The only thing there is that may be tricky is we need to use a backup gateway. We need Acronis cyberinfrastructure when we want something like non-internet connectivity users to do a backup or something like that. Therefore, when we have a use case like that, we have to do cyberinfrastructure. Apart from that, the on-premise and cloud deployment are user-friendly. Anyone can easily configure and use it.

I'd rate the entire process a four out of five in terms of ease of deployment. It only takes about half an hour to set up. You install the management server and then install the agent on the machine. Then, with the use cases we are trying, it takes a bit of time. We tried to back up mailboxes, and we tried to back up workstations. It takes time to do this part. However, the actual setting up didn't take any time.

You could use training for setup, but if they just made quick tutorial videos, for example, this is how you do a backup, a local backup, and have the video go through and do it. You would watch it. You would be looking at the same screen as you look at if you were doing it yourself. And then somebody would narrate. "This is what you do: you do this, you do this, you do this." Just walk through the steps. It doesn't have to be really detailed. Rather, when you get to an option where there's a question, and it's a yes or no question: "This is where you select this." Just a little video that's two minutes or three minutes long that shows you how to set up a backup. Something as simple as that.

A lot of people in the tech industry, or people who do this for living, they learn things quicker this way; in other words, show me once, I can do it.

You don't need to have it for the lowest common denominator, make it kind of a medium level. Worse case scenario, they just rewind and watch it again. To me, if they did that then you'd have little videos where you see how to do things, how you use the app. Instead of it being written out, it's actually where I can visually see it. Some people learn better reading something, some people learn better doing something, some people learn better watching something, so give them different avenues.
