What do you think of HPE ProLiant DL Servers?

Valuable Features It allows us to utilize the servers for VDI. The system supports two GPU's. • Improvements to My Organization It was part of a bigger solution, which is VDI. We are able to publish desktops for design engineers whose requirements are continuously changing on a weekly basis. • Room for Improvement I would like to look at Synergy for the new servers. It will be out in June or July. The Synergy Streamer Composer is one of the powerful features that Synergy has. • Stability Issues It is pretty stable. We had a pretty good experience with HPE so far. • Scalability Issues Scalability shouldn't be an issue. We can have 20 servers in one rack. • Customer Service and Technical Support I've had good experience with HPE support. the support engineers...

What is most valuable?

These servers have been real work-horses. Dell has done a nice job at including more management tools, with OpenManage and the likes. The DRAC Enterprise is an amazing feature, especially when managing decentralized server farms.

What is most valuable?

It is quite simple when you get it going. I like the blade concept that makes is so much easier to handle the servers.

How has it helped my organization?

In the beginning we used Splunk in a virtual environment and the performance was quite hard on that system. So when we moved to the Apollo and all flash drives, we gained a lot of performance on that.

What needs improvement?

We unfortunately have tried to used standardization using Ubuntu Linux and it's been hard. They had some difficulties getting the RAID configuration up and running because there are no drivers for it. It's not supported by HPE.

What do you think of HPE Moonshot?

Riding the current software defined data center (SDDC) wave being led by the likes of VMware and software defined networking (SDN) also championed by VMware via their acquisition of Nicira last year, Software Defined Marketing (SDM) is in full force, along with Software Defined Data Infrastructures (SDDI). HP being a player in providing the core building blocks for traditional little data and big data, along with physical, virtual, converged, cloud and software defined has announced a new compute, processor or server platform called the Moonshot 1500. Software defined marketing aside, there are some real and interesting things from a technology standpoint that HP is doing with the Moonshot 1500 along with other vendors who are offering micro server based solutions. ...
