What is most valuable?

It has many great features, but in most of the companies that I have done consulting for, they rarely use them as it requires an advanced level of knowledge of the tool. Event Configuration: A tool in its simplest form creates business logic... more»

How has it helped my organization?

Reduces the false positives, by creating our own business logic with the Event Configuration. Allows us to have a single console/notification point, with the alarms of all the tools that we use for monitoring.

What needs improvement?

It’s like having a Ferrari, without a professional driver. Most companies don’t use all the good features. The out-of-the-box features are just too poor: (Ping, CPU, Disk and Memory, Process, and File Systems). CA Spectrum is an... more»

What is most valuable?

I love the GUI. Almost everything is accessible through the web interface. It is very user-friendly. It is easy to drag and drop resources wherever you want them. NPM also includes additional features that come in handy, such as a web SSH... more»

How has it helped my organization?

I have been able to customize so many things using SolarWinds. I have set up baseline configurations and quickly remediated devices against them. I am using the SYSLOG and trap functions for my non-priority devices. I have NetPath set up to... more»

What needs improvement?

I think there needs to be more granularity in the permission sets in almost all of the SolarWinds products. I want to be able to specify almost everything that a specific user group can do. I am being a little picky with this, as there are... more»

What do you think of Spiceworks?

Valuable Features Network Helpdesk • Improvements to My Organization Tracking common issues has been improved. • Room for Improvement I don't really use anything besides the free stuff so I can't say. It does, however, require help-desk and minor server/firewall config XP experience to set up. • Use of Solution I've used it for two years. • Deployment Issues There have been no issues with the deployment. • Stability Issues There have been no issues with its stability. • Scalability Issues There have been no issues scaling it. • Customer Service and Technical Support Customer Service: I've never had to contact them. Technical Support: I've never had to contact them. • Initial Setup It's straightforward, anybody with help-desk and minor...

What do you think of CA Unified Infrastructure Management?

Valuable Features We mainly monitor services around the database applications, and things like that. The most valuable features of UIM are that it's scalable and it's relatively easy to set up monitoring on the servers. • Room for Improvement The reporting part could be improved. We’re using other tools for that. Maybe we’ll continue to do that, but that is one thing we are missing; and the SLA, and what you can do there. As I cannot compare it with others, it's a bit difficult to say. • Stability Issues It's very stable. • Scalability Issues It is scalable. In production, we have about 600-700 servers. • Customer Service and Technical Support It's mainly my colleague who is in contact with CA technical support. Things take time. • Other Advice I think you...

ITRS can define rules to alert when certain parameters that you monitor breach a threshold. Rules can be configured to fire recovery actions automatically to clear the alert. However, if the alert persists for an extended period, then it has... more»

How has it helped my organization?

ITRS helps us to identify a lot of production issues proactively. E.g., ITRS alerts for a critical process memory that grows beyond the configured threshold limits. The limits are set to alert before the process crashes. This allows support... more»

What needs improvement?

ITRS has setup XML that holds the entire monitoring configuration. Only the last 10 versions of the setup XML is saved locally on the gateway server. These 10 versions get overwritten quite easily when you are working with a big configuration... more»

What do you think of HPE OneView?

Valuable Features The most valuable feature is the capability it provides to implement automation and write automation scripts. This is what the world is going after. • Improvements to My Organization We deliver faster now. • Room for Improvement Sometimes it gets slow, so it doesn’t always perform well. I think it's a work in progress. • Stability Issues Every product has it's bugs, but they are getting fixed. • Customer Service and Technical Support Technical support was very useful. For me, when you are choosing a product, good technical support is a must. • Previous Solutions We were using HPE SIM. That's fairly buggy. It's okay for monitoring hardware, but it's a bit of a drama for other things. • Initial Setup The initial setup was straightforward,...
