The initial setup is relatively easy. It was done by my technical director, but I'm sure anyone could do it.

The solution is deployed on the cloud model.
Setting up AlienVault is straightforward. They provide teams and reps to help us get everything set up and connected. We also had a security engineer who was highly experienced in deploying the agents, putting the connectors in place, and pulling the logs into the SIEM.

It was very simple. The deployment and integration of other devices took about three to five days, and just the installation took less than 30 minutes.
The setup was not difficult and was a bit straightforward. The tricky part was trying to correlate what to send alerts for. Sometimes the log is unclear, and the report is a bit ambiguous. So we need to do additional research to know what the log and raw data are saying. The deployment was done both in-house and with a third party.

The initial setup of AT&T AlienVault USM was straightforward. The deployment took approximately one hour.
View full review »It's straightforward and relatively easy for someone who is tech-oriented.
View full review »I rate AlienVault USM eight out of 10 for ease of setup. I've deployed it on-prem and in the cloud in EXI. You can deploy it in under 10 minutes. I deployed it by myself. It was easy for me because I attended the training, but some of my colleagues didn't. It was challenging for them to implement. However, one person is enough if you're trained.
View full review »The initial setup was pretty straightforward. It wasn't that difficult.
The initial steps of the implementation, getting the account and setting it up, only take a few hours. Then there's some fine-tuning that takes place afterward, and it takes a little bit longer. You need about a week to really get that fully configured with a good plan and deployed in the environment, and then from there, it's just fine-tuning as you go.

It is pretty straightforward from what I've seen, but it has to be verified to make sure any changes in the environment are added to the configuration. Like anything, it is not set it and forget it. You really have to make sure that it is capturing everything if things change or new systems are brought online. It is more of a procedural thing where you have to make sure somebody is keeping it up to date.
For its maintenance, we have someone who manages the product itself. In our company, for IT people, we have around 100 or so staff. We have customers nationwide, but we probably have two to three people managing this product. They are in more of a security analyst type of role dedicated to security.
It was very straightforward. I had made a couple of little mistakes that most likely would have been avoided if I had not rushed a few aspects of the install, but tech support was able to get me back on the right track.

I'd say it was kind of in the middle, complexity-wise. It's actually fairly easy to deploy a new client.

As partners, we think the setup is pretty straightforward but I imagine it depends on whom you ask. There are a lot of people who don't think so, but we think it's pretty straightforward. It has an easy-to-go-along Start menu, and the overall GUI is easy to navigate. It's pretty step-by-step, as long as you can follow those directions.
It can be as simple or complex as you want it to be. But for the most part, it's just a very easy tool to be able to engage with, to click on. They make it intuitive.
Sometimes deployment takes a couple of hours, sometimes it takes a couple of days, depending on the size of deployment.
We definitely have an implementation strategy but there are a lot of details to that. Just stay organized, pay attention to the details, cross your T's and dot your I's.

Setting up AlienVault USM was relatively straightforward. Of course, all software is complex, but this wasn't overly complex. We did do some professional service hours with the vendor during the deployment, but that was more about best practices. We asked how to configure it to get the most out of the solution.
It's not an admin-heavy product in terms of maintenance and management. There's certainly a lot you can do to customize and configure it, but it doesn't require much administration. Someone is logging in most days to check in and review alerts.

It was easy on PoC, but when we got to the product it was different story. We had to learn the product again and got feeling that the PoC was a different product.

Initial install is easy, the complexity only comes in as you start to add logs to the system to collect. If you do not take the time to plan out your installation and get a complete list of devices to collect from you could run into issues.

The initial setup is straightforward. The configuration and deployment are easy.
The setup process initially requires a few hours. Once we have obtained the necessary licenses, we can start using the system within a day. However, it may take a few months to complete the heuristic data and begin the optimization process. One to two people are required for the deployment.
There is a trial license for 15 days and that acts as a POC. Post-trial period the same can be converted into a licensed tier.

The initial setup is pretty easy. Anyone can install this solution within four or five hours. They don't need to be engineers in order to do that.
By that point, it will already be prepped and can show us what is happening from a security point of view.
It's quite easy to install and deploy. You don't need a security team for ten people. There's a lot of automation within the tool, so you only really need one or two security staff to operate it for a company of, for example, 500 people.

If you're not familiar with it from a tech perspective, it might be confusing for you, but from what I've seen and based on my experience, it is pretty simple and straightforward.
The user guides are also very helpful if you hit any roadblocks. It is very straightforward in terms of the instructions to set it up, but you should have minimum tech experience in understanding the documentation, which is fair enough and good because you don't want it to be too simple to set up that companies would say, "Well, we don't need IT if anybody can do this." So, you'd need some technical background to at least understand the documentation or the user guide.
I've only installed it for myself. It took a short amount of time to get it up and running. The deployment duration would depend on a customer's infrastructure size and the number of nodes that a customer has. It will also depend on the data collection that the agents or the engines need to do to protect the information and then put it in its database.

The setup is pretty simple. The documentation is good. I've been setting up platforms like this for years, so it's not hard for me. For someone who is new to the product and hasn't used this type of product before, they'll have a little bit of a challenge, but it's not too bad. The system is pretty easy to install and, if you follow the documentation, it's pretty easy to configure.
Some cloud integration steps, like G Suite, were more complicated and prone to error.

The initial setup procedures were definitely missing some key steps. They need to keep in mind that not everyone is an expert on network equipment and perhaps be more descriptive and provide more details. That would have been helpful.
I think they look at it as if you're a very knowledgeable person. I hate saying the word "dumb," but they need to dumb it down a little bit and think about all the types of people they need to hit, not just the people who have been doing networking for 20 years. They need to keep in mind that there are people who are just out of college or who are not as
knowledgeable. They need to keep in mind that all walks of life need to be considered.
I just hope that AlienVault realizes that they need their instructions to be a little bit more detailed and descriptive. Through the troubleshooting I did with them, they realized that there were issues, and they put in a request to update their instructions.

It's fairly complex. There is quite a bit of additional config required in order to get the most from the system. A base config allows for monitoring, but to get the most, you need to add plugins for various systems on your network: this config is somewhat complex and requires a good knowledge of how AV works.
