What is Basecamp?
Basecamp is a web-based project-management tool developed by Basecamp and launched in 2004, with a new version being launched in 2012. Basecamp offers to-do lists, wiki-style web-based text documents, milestone management, file sharing, time tracking, and a messaging system. Basecamp Classic also offers integration with Basecamp's own Campfire product, and features APIs that are used by a host of web and mobile apps. Basecamp Classic's interface is available in different languages (e.g. Spanish, French, Italian, German, Finnish and Japanese). The newer version of Basecamp currently only supports English as the interface language.

How has it helped my organization?

It has centralization of project specific data while providing universal access to relevant parties both internal and external.

What needs improvement?

Formalized area to store contact information indexed in a way that can pre-populate other areas would be helpful.

Not sure if it has the ability to save a template of a to-do list that could be reused for similar projects.

For how long have I used the solution?

1 year

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

Nothing to deploy so no.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Not so far.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It's meant for optimizing functionality with more intimate team engagement. This typically results in a lower number of participants. Not certain if scalability would be an issue.

How are customer service and technical support?

Customer Service:

Never called them.

Technical Support:

Never called them.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Asana. The app functionality and ease of seeing the different functionalities parsed equally on the screen with consistent menu access to shift between areas.

How was the initial setup?

Yes. You click a link or download the app and get to work.

What about the implementation team?

No vendor.

What was our ROI?

Client dependent and would be measured in time reduction, which is also dependent on company process.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Very low cost. If the functionality helps you stay organized, then buy it. It's that inexpensive starting at $29 for unlimited users.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Asana.

What other advice do I have?

Map out your processes first and set expectations for those using the tool to follow consistent protocols. This enables you to maximize the benefit that Basecamp has to offer.
