Bitdefender GravityZone EDR Valuable Features

It's a very comprehensive product. I like the fact that Bitdefender is used by about 38% or more, of other security vendors is another type of tick box that lends credibility.

The reporting function allows you to put block sites on blocked content sites, after which you can go and see what was blocked. It tells you what was blocked, why it was blocked, and how you can fix it. So, like, what we do is we actually block all the streaming services, such as certain YouTube labels and certain videos like Disney Plus, which involves a lot of content control. So we can see what stuff is embedded, open it up, see what got blocked because of an embedded video, and then open that video backup to allow them to see it. It also gets you right to where you need to go and how to fix it to allow users to work.

The solution can analyze the endpoint's security problems if a cluster of compromised machines exists. Also, the Sandbox was very useful for trying to verify if some of the files received by our colleagues had viruses or malware. The different features are useful for the day-to-day analysis of the security infrastructure.

One strong point is that it doesn't have many background services running on the Windows system or server operating system. This minimizes impact because it's a lighter version.

For instance, when comparing Bitdefender GravityZone to Sophos, I noticed Sophos has 19 background services, which is quite excessive. This creates issues for our in-house developed applications, especially with database services, causing CPU usage spikes to as high as 95 to 98 percent.

So, Bitdefender significantly reduces CPU load compared to Sophos.

GravityZone is lightweight and efficient for us. When comparing antivirus solutions in the market, Bitdefender often ranks in the top one or two. We previously used Sophos for around three years, but it wasn't compatible with our systems. Bitdefender offers fewer background services, which suits our needs better. More features, more background services. Fewer features, fewer background services

I just love the whole product altogether. Firstly, we know Bitdefender GravityZone EDR is a market leader in security, and that gives us confidence. The second thing is that it's very, very easy to manage. The solution's deployment is very easy and flexible. You can do on-prem systems and on-prem relays. You can also have systems in the cloud.

The solution gives us a very, very quick modification. If I want to change how a whole bunch of client machines are set up, I can do that, and I know it's reliably going to get to it.

What I have found to be valuable is after every new release of the solution there are more features. At the time that we bought Bitdefender GravityZone, it was their top solution. We went from their Enterprise version to Elite, Elite HD, Ultra, and now there is an Ultra Plus available.

Overall the solution is working well, it can be a little intense and thorough at times, but I would rather have it be a little bit more thorough than not detect what it is supposed to. We have been running the solution for a long time through various versions and we have not had any viruses or malware breaches.

When comparing this solution to others it performs just as well as the majority of the top-level alternatives.

The feature I find the most valuable the heuristic for malicious scripts and the component is called HyperDetect. This solution actually prevents file-less and script-based attacks at pre-execution where other solution such as Crowdstrike detects but not prevent. An example would be base 64 encoded Powershell script or command line .  With Bitdefender gravity zone ultra scripts are run into agent buffer before it execute to detect and block malicious script weather it is Powershell ,vbs , etc.

What we appreciate is that Microsoft Defender is positioned as an intermediary. However, one area where we're considering a different approach is in terms of the insurance it provides. We have mobile device management in place, but we encounter challenges when adding licenses to desktops without active users. Some of our machines remain idle, running certain jobs with Bitdefender protection. However, I face a dilemma when it comes to applying Microsoft Defender to these machines because there's no user logging in with a 365 license to enable Defender.

It's easy to sell. If we speak about the parts, the product is easy to sell.

You can control everything, including monitoring of all websites and blocked devices, from one place. If you detect a virus, you can isolate the PC from the network and prevent access to the internet, network and routers. Once fixed, you can give access back to the client. We have not had this functionality using other solutions.

The best feature for our customers is the ransomware feature. It is very fresh and powerful. Bitdefender also has a feature called Ransomware Vaccine. With this feature, when a file from the ransomware is encrypted Bitdefender can revert it back to the original file. It automatically decrypts the file and puts the ransom in quarantine. This is like SentinelOne. This is a very impressive feature.

The second Bitdefender feature that I consider very important is its anti-phishing filter. The workstations get a straight content filter to protect from web pages. I like Bitdefender's anti-phishing so much because it doesn't need to install to any browser. It's captured directly from the network traffic in the computer, and it stopped a lot of phishing or phishing pages. It a very powerful anti-phisher. It sends email reports in real-time. I'm very happy with that.

The valuable features are, of course, the protection against malware, ransomware, and any other forms of malicious software, but the solution also provides application and device control which stops people copying things onto a memory stick, for example. In addition, it provides web filtering and blocking of inappropriate websites. The product covers pretty much every aspect of cyber security, but the primary function that everybody gets it for is the antimalware or antivirus protection.

The product is solid, it's why we chose to distribute it, we're very particular about the products we distribute and only take the best, so we don't distribute Symantec or any other AV solutions. It's value for money. There are some competing antiviruses out there which are at least as powerful. Products like Sophos, but they're about three times the price. The cheaper products, such as  ESET NOD32, for instance, are more suitable for individual use. Bitdefender is a user friendly and intuitive solution but we also have a team that provides support for our customers.

The advantage of the solution is that it has a console on the cloud and you can update the clients. You don't need to put it on the server on your company or on-premise. You can manage the clients through the console on the cloud and you can send policies and updates and other things without the need to put a client into your own network.

Bitdefender has a EDR solution in the client. It offers protection for the exchange and can check services. It has a patch management feature, which is quite useful for us.

We're able to implement a sandbox solution, to try to detect any malware on devices. It helps keep us safe.

So far, the solution has been problem-free. We have never had to reach out to technical support to troubleshoot as it just seems to work very well.

The solution has better UI and better UX tools.

The standard policies are pretty good, right out of the box. We seldom have to tweak them. We have never had to make, and I'm speaking across probably 14 law firms in 2020, we've never had to attenuate for a specific device case like a scanner or a particular piece of software. On three occasions it did block some software paralegals were trying to install, which turned out to be malicious.

We like the dashboard, the console, the reporting. It's very easy to deploy.

We're pretty strong on GravityZone. We have had zero penetrations across our entire client base.

The feature that I've found most valuable is the ability to configure updates to be hourly. Only very few antiviruses can do that. You can be protected from a wide range of malware because it can do hourly updates. We haven't heard of another solution that can do this.

Easy management of the endpoint protection. In simple words, it is awesome, very simple to use, understand, and apply its policies. Another feature is traffic scan, which protects the endpoints of harmful websites. It has direct impact on security, the email traffic scan, which is the last layer of protection in the organization, and based on today's threats, a very good option.

The Ultra is a valuable feature. So are the EDR components, which provide endpoint protection for the use of security operation centers, as they relate to whatever may be happening respecting the endpoints.

The solution is easy to use and implement. It only requires one server and this is in contrast with other products that require more, one for management and another for the database.
