Blue Prism Cloud Initial Setup

Keith Mcdowell - PeerSpot reviewer
Chief Executive Officer at Keith F Kube and Associates

I rate Blue Prism Cloud eight out of 10 for ease of setup. It's a cloud-based solution, so it isn't hard to set up. The deployment time is hard to quantify because I work for the government, and we need to go through all these internal reviews, but the technical part takes three to four weeks.

The biggest challenge is security because we need to integrate it with Active Directory and set up VPN tunnels, security profiles, etc. We deployed Blue Prism in-house and used three people to set it up. One solution engineer is enough to maintain it.

I rate the ease of setup an eight out of ten. My organization started engaging with the solution on September 2021 and got the developer’s license in January. The process took four to five months, from the POC to receiving the license. They did some validation testing and had to make some contracts.

The initial setup of Blue Prism Cloud is incredibly seamless and smooth. It operates flawlessly. However, when it comes to Kubernetes and containers, our involvement is somewhat limited. We mainly deal with microservices applications that our clients are actively working on. We offer two deployment options for this new product, and we can efficiently deploy the solution within two to three days. The support team is also highly competent and skilled, providing excellent assistance and guidance. Nowadays, deployment models across various solutions tend to be quite similar. However, there are subtle differences in terms of packaging and deployment methods, which may vary among different vendors.

Extending the time frame slightly, typically takes approximately two to three days. During this period, we thoroughly examine fail logs and address any issues encountered. Eventually, we successfully gain access to the system and can proceed with our tasks.

The initial setup for Blue Prism Cloud is easy if you have a technical background. It's a ten out of ten, setup-wise, but if you come from a non-technical background, the setup is a seven out of ten.

How long Blue Prism Cloud deployment takes depends on different phases. The first POC machine will be set up for normal development and testing. Once that's done, the timeline is around one to two months for POC testing. Once the POC is done, the technical phase starts, where you set up the complete infrastructure as required in the project, which takes less than a month. Lastly, you need to deploy and run on robotics all processes and requirements for development, and that takes another three months to complete, depending on your automation process.

The initial setup is straightforward. It's not that difficult when you are using cloud. Well, it depends. If it's on premise, there are a few aspects to be considered. Our in-house team assisted with deployment.

This solution was complex to deploy at the beginning, but that's mainly because of how our own infrastructure is set up. Everything is in the cloud so we had to put in a solution that allows one area of the cloud to speak to another area of the cloud.

Initial setup was not too difficult, the difficult part was our own infrastructure and the cloud set up. We had internal resources and consultants helping. The  whole setup and deployment of the solution took almost three months which included architecture of the infrastructure, installing Blue Prism and starting automation.

The initial setup of the product needs a lot of time and effort. There are a lot of switches that you need to have in place before starting work with Blue Prism Cloud. On the other hand, for Contextor, you just need to install the software and have the license and password. In general, Blue Prism Cloud setup phase is a bit complex.

The deployment process of the product is a phase that can be carried out very fast. You just prepare a release and export or import it, a very fast process.

The solution is deployed on an on-premises model.

The initial setup and deployment are complex. It is being deployed over multiple locations in the public sector. There are a number of branch offices and the different units have to be able to work together. It is also important that we minimize disturbance and interference with their operations during the deployment.

The deployment takes place over months.

The complexity of the initial setup depends on the use case. There are deployments that happen in a week, whereas in other cases, it will take a month or two. It is a question of finding the right process to automate and validating stability. Really, it is more about governance and how they go about process discovery.

The initial setup has a moderate amount of difficulty. A company definitely needs to ensure they have the right people with the right skillsets. It's not so simple and straightforward that just anyone can set it up.

The initial setup was very easy. It's not complex at all. There are instructions that you have to follow to install the software and they are very easy. You just go step by step by step and then you are done. The documentation provided is thorough and excellent.

There are two parts to installation. One part is the tool setup and the second part is actually building the processes. If you talk about the tool setup aspect it can be done in a day. In total, it will take about one or two days to set it up completely.

One person can deploy the solution.

The initial setup was quite complex. In comparison to other RPA implementations, it's difficult. We had some difficulties when it came to estimating the actual amount of man-hours it would take to set up the solution, and the actual effort needed.

The deployment took a few weeks. We had seven people working on it. Most were engineers. Once it's set up, however, it only takes about one person to handle the maintenance.

The solution is more or less the same to set up, whether you choose the cloud or on-premises. It's not exactly straightforward. You need some know-how.

The deployment depends upon the scale of the company and the environment. We started with a really small automation of small workflows. RPA generally doesn't take too long. Otherwise, it'll not solve the real purpose. With Blue Prism, if you take a small hypothetical example of trade operations, if they want to automate a work flow, it would take a little over one to two weeks at most.

If you include the testing, everything more or less can be done within three weeks to one month, if you're not going to worry about too many complex items like OCR, etc. If you include those things, then it will definitely take more time because testing takes a while. When there are users involved, you need to give them a lot of instructions. It could get pretty complex.

Compared to UiPath, the initial setup is slightly complex. You need to set up a database and other support systems. It will take perhaps a day to deploy and configure properly. If you have all of the tools, permissions, and policies configured then it should not take longer than that.
