Celonis Room for Improvement

1. The marketplace should offer process connectors for Oracle JDEdwards, and Peoplesoft.

2. If we can have prebuilt apps and a process cockpit for Oracle EBS Warehouse Management and Inventory Management.

3.  We need more documentation and examples of PQL language. That would be an improvement.

4. Importing data into Celonis should provide date/month/year import options so that you can import specific periods of data.

5. Licenses are costly and calculated based on APC and the number of users. It should offer a more flexible option for initial data uploads. A pay-as-you-go model is not available yet.

The process analytics could be a bit easier. You should be able to drag and drop easily from all of the aggregating and calculating functions rather than having to write an equal query. It takes a time investment to learn how to write an equal query.

Documentation can always improve to make things even easier for developers.

I want to see improvements in terms of machine learning. In the future, there are a lot of things to do with machine learning, so I want to do that with Celonis.

Another area of improvement is implementation. So, in future releases, I would like to see a more streamlined implementation process would be appreciated, making it less time-consuming and more efficient.

Also, there is room for improvement in technical support.

The purchase and ticketing management processes could be improved. The solution must be more user-friendly. Another room for improvement is the interface. A few different coding languages, such as Python, SQL, and YAML, are being used right now. To use the product completely, we have to know all these languages. It is a little difficult for beginners to learn so many new things together. If there are one or two languages or drag-and-drop features, it will be easier for new users.

Celonis provides many updates every month or every quarter. It is difficult for the implementation partners to stay updated with the features they are providing. The product is already adding many new features every quarter.

They could provide artificial intelligence where, based on data they collect from reference cases, they could give us suggestions. For example, we see a long delay between steps, and based on the context, they could provide more suggestions on where the problem could be, and that would provide a very different value proposition for the solution. Likewise, if you can't define something as account receivable or account payable, Celonis could ask a lot of questions to fix the context to provide the right recommendation. It would be relatively easy.

They need to improve the root cause analysis because they label symptoms as root causes. In addition, they need to provide readymade value stream mapping. There are several models in value stream mapping, like first pass yield and rolled throughput yield, and these concepts are brought in as a measure in the Process Explorer. It will be beneficial to anybody who wants to complete a workshop.

The one thing that could be improved is the guides are not getting updated to cover new features and upgrades, which means we can't use them at their full potential. In addition, the development could be done more quickly, so we don't have to search online for solutions.

Celonis has a simulation module that can only simulate based on the data it was mining from the systems. We would like to have the option to add other activities that are not happening in the systems and be able to simulate that impact as well. In other words, we want to be able to extend the simulation module with these additional features.

For example, we would like to see improvement of the simulation capabilities to include a BPMN-compliant modeler. That is, we would like to be able to connect the simulation to the BPMN modeler. I think it's one of the features that is missing in Celonis.

Maybe I don't have that response right now because, as I previously stated, I am still a beginner and have only been using this product for six months. I am just getting started with Celonis, I don't think I am the ideal person to comment on areas for improvement in the product itself, in Celonis.

If you compare the pricing and other features, then yes. I believe one thing I can recommend here is that they create a community atmosphere to assist new users in doing hands-on work.

They have an academic program where we can conduct hands-on, predefined databases.

They should provide a community edition license so that everyone can deploy or install it on their own system and get more hands-on experience with the product.

I prefer to see S/4HANA in the marketplace. With Celonis it’s a CU app for HANA, but it's for ECC for all of them. Using the other apps and connections is limited for us. For example, we need inventory management, and we use the S/4HANA, but we don’t have any application and connection for this process in the marketplace. This is a gap for my business.

Nothing comes to mind in terms of improvement. I believe they are pretty much convinced, and they do a good job at it, nothing comes to mind that they should improve on.

In my opinion, because Celonis is not automated, this is something that should be considered. They will, I believe, be required to do so in the future. They can have the best possible part and potentially an automation solution if they do the scripting. However, it is not an automation tool; rather, it is a process mining solution. They're doing process mining, so they might as well do automation.

Celonis should develop their machine learning. That is an area that could improve.

Celonis should have the ability to automate in the next release, in my opinion.

The price could be scaled down a bit to be cheaper.

Complexity is the biggest problem. You need a large amount of skill and knowledge to work with the tool. You need to understand it and know more than the basics.

It takes a huge amount of effort to build a good dashboard in Celonis because of the complexities of understanding how all those different processes work together, calculate them, and build them in Celonis.

If you need to do something custom or create an analysis on your own, you'll need to learn a lot, and it'll take weeks. This is not a self-service tool. Let's be honest. Many companies say that they have thousands of Celonis users, and this is probably true. But I don't really think that Celonis is an application that should be used in the organization by general operational people. This is more a tool for global process owners or process improvement functions.

In future I would like to see alerts, better self-service capabilities, and cross-applicational KPIs in the next release.

The tool must have better process graphs. It would be better to have some tool keys with customizable data. It would be better if detailed information about an activity is available when we hover the cursor on the activities. The solution must provide better side-by-side comparisons of different processes like target and current process or as-is and to-be models. I have faced issues on these points while using the product.

I have noticed Celonis and Azure, as Infrastructure-as-a-service do not communicate well with each other. Since Celonis has recently acquired PAF they would try to synergize their operations with Microsoft tools. In the next couple of years, they should be more connected to the Microsoft ecosystems. In the long term, they should integrate more with SAP which is a partner of Microsoft. This would result in cost efficiencies.

Similar to what SAP is doing with S/4HANA, Celonis should allow business users to create their own analytics tab. In my previous organization, business analysts were the only ones who were actively building these reports with Celonis, whereas SAP platforms are now allowing the business users to create their own reports with graphics and all other things based on the data that is presented. This is one thing that Celonis needs. Currently, just the technical teams are doing that.

Sometimes, when we were looking at five years of data, it used to take up to 3 seconds. It wasn't bad, but we had to wait a little bit. It probably also had to do with the server.

I don't know if it can be used on mobile devices. If not, that will be the way to go. They should mobilize it to allow people to see these reports on their mobile devices.

With Celonis, the way to use the product is one of the main difficulties users face in our company. In our company, we use Celonis for analysis, KPIs, and dashboards, and though the creation of new views is not too difficult for me, I cannot use all the luxurious things that we use in Celonis in our company while dealing with the analysis part. In general, the tool is easy to use, but our company doesn't get the luxury of using all the components in the analysis area of the product.

I would really appreciate it if Celonis had significant compatibility with robotic process automation solutions. Once they define the process and understand it, streamline it, optimize it, and take inputs around it. When they reconfigure the process, there should be good compatibility with any of the automation tools, wherein I can integrate for robotic process automation, where I can streamline many of these processes on the application itself.

Today, I need to extract this process and reload it into other tools, like UiPath, to integrate them with Automation Anywhere. If this tool can provide that efficiency, that would be great.

I'm a data analytics guy. I lead a data analytics team. So technically, I would primarily look at if this can give me a visualization opportunity and integrate that in terms of the data.

One area for improvement is that, while Celonis has existing APIs for some domains like accounts, it lacks ready-made ones for others, like financial services. This means we need to customize our data channels so the data can be used by Celonis.

There's a lot of pre-work needed to cleanse and harmonize data attributes before it's usable with Celonis. That's the main issue I see with the tool.

Let's use an example of a financial process, such as loan origination. An application comes in and is scanned. Someone then reviews it, capturing the details.

After review, it enters the organization system, potentially with bypass steps. There are different stages: validating the application, capturing data, validating documents, and deciding whether to accept the loan. We need to precisely define these stages.

In many organizations, this data might not readily exist. We can't just use Celonis with existing data; it needs harmonization first.

This means we might not be able to leverage existing data in Celonis, starting from scratch instead. If an organization has ten years of data, we need to cleanse it at the data point level and metadata level.

This involves merging, simplifying, removing, and relabeling attributes. It's a lot of work. Celonis works well when this pre-work is done. Right now, good facilitating tools are missing, even from Microsoft. We need to harmonize those timestamps manually before connecting the data to Celonis, which provides the analysis output we need.

I hope Celonis simplifies this process in future releases.

I would like to see additional features, such as starting up a kind of prototype based on the domain. For example, in the insurance domain, they could provide templates for top-tier processes. Currently, we are stating our own processes.

Additionally, it would be helpful if they could categorize processes into tier levels, such as tier one, two, and three, and provide guidance on aligning oneself accordingly. This could be useful in considering costs and other factors.

With every upgrade, the product is completely changed. When we work on technological tools, improvements will be made. However, the product should be similar to its previous version even after upgrades. With Celonis, the product and its features are completely changed after upgrades. The new features launched are unrelated to the previous version's features. A person experienced with last year's version cannot use the features introduced in the latest version.

Their communication related to the product roadmap should be improved. From a customer's point of view, they should communicate more about their product roadmap.

The Process Query Language (PQL) native language used in Celonis needs improvements. It has most of the process-related functions but we have queries from clients that cannot be done in PQL.

Most of the KPIs are done in PQL, if we could have support for other languages, such as Python. We could directly configure our KPIs using these other languages and it would be a great help.

A major room for improvement would be on the data connection trend, because we were trying to do a POC with a client that had multiple data systems, multiple ERPs. When we contact Celonis, we either get a very generic response or a very delayed response. Celonis will ask for some 86 different tables, as an example. They ask us to get the data for 86 different tables. When I'm doing a proof of concept, if I tell the client that I need 86 different tables, the client going to refuse and not even interact with me. There should be minimum tables, the eight or ten tables which you can use to do at least a minimum proof of concept.

Additionally, instead of having, for example, an end-to-end experience within the solution, it is very nice for the analysis parts, but when it comes down to action, then we need to step out of it.

The pricing policy is not affordable in Ukraine. For example, in Kazakhstan, we have some negotiations with Azerbaijan country. Telecom is one of the biggest telecom companies in Kazakhstan, but this was a little bit expensive for them.

Now, I think they decided to postpone it because of the price policy.

We could start several projects, and we already have clients that are interested, but the only concern was pricing.

You only need processes to return the money. You need process, you already have the process, but say you need to return $50,000 or $100,000 every month.

However, in the areas where we work, meeting such a high standard is quite challenging.

For example, online loans. It's most likely an interesting case. However, with others, such as finances, some efficient method to make it efficient and return on money is rather challenging. Make it more than efficient.

Celonis has created section-like meetings, by which we can implement commissioned learning, which means machine learning skills, in the system. Based on the fields, the continuous controls monitoring can be enhanced a little. Without knowledge of program language, such as Python, a person cannot carry out the fiction learning part. It would be nice if a business analyst could also implement machine learning or create machine learning fields and then use these to obtain more insights from the person involved. It would be helpful if the lesson did coding paths and created certain drag and drop type of features.

Essentially, the solution should allow for more plug and play instead of requiring a person to be adept at a certain level in coding and developing.

This would save time for both us and the customer and enable us to provide greater value in a more time-efficient manner.

That is to say, automation learning should be responsible for the coding and implement some machine learning as a business analyst, making the product more of a plug-and-play solution.
