What is Centrify Privileged Access Service?

Centrify Privilege Service provides all of your IT administration teams with secure, granular access to infrastructure regardless of location, and without the hassles of a VPN.
Secure browser-based access Authorized IT users launch management sessions for resources directly from the Privilege Service portal. Sessions use SSH and RDP protocols, and are always protected end-to-end.

Access across organizational boundaries Privilege Service enables you to authenticate your IT users through Active Directory, LDAP Centrify Cloud Directory, or Google G Suite
Directory. You can use one or any combination of these identity stores to grant granular access to employees, business partners and outside vendors.

Grant access to specific resources Unlike a VPN, Privilege Service enables you to grant access to
resources on a on a per-resource basis. This means that you can easily give your internal IT admins access to as much of your infrastructure as necessary, while limiting access by an outsourced
team to only the servers and network hardware their business role or IT function requires.

Access from any location Your IT admins can log in and securely access resources from any location that can reach the Privilege Service. For user logins outside the corporate network, you can require Centrify’s built-in multi-factor authentication for security stronger than a user name and password.

Centrify Privileged Access Service was previously known as Centrify Zero Trust Privilege Services, Centrify Zero Trust Privilege, Centrify Infrastructure Services, Centrify Server Suite, Centrify Privilege Service.

Has good privileged account management, multifactor authentication and auditing features

Pros and Cons

  • "The privileged account management feature is what I like most."
  • "The initial setup is a bit complex."

What is our primary use case?

One of our customers uses this solution in conjuction with Idaptive. They use it on-premises and in the cloud for Privileged Access Management, Identity Management and especially for the powerful audit functionalities.

How has it helped my organization?

There is more control over shared administrative accounts. Accountability is a big part of compliance requirements and the attestation reports are very useful when preparing for external audits.

What is most valuable?

Being able to access servers, web applications, network devices, etc. securely from anywhere, with MFA. Workflows can be added for extra security. There are powerful auditing & reporting features available, and Privileged Account Management is made easy. And they have excellent support.

What needs improvement?

The product does provide alerting, but it might be useful if the process of setting up the alerts can be simplified.

However, they provide a feedback platform where users can request new features for future releases. We have requested a feature update and it will be included at some point.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Centrify Zero Trust Privilege for two years now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's a very stable solution. You have to ensure High Availability through multiple connectors.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

During the initial setup, you have to do a lot of planning because it's your security product. But you can scale up to thousands of servers; thousands of users. This solution is ideal for small, medium and large businesses. And it is scalable. You can start with a few users, and the benefit is huge. This product is for companies of all sizes.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support is excellent.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

No.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is a bit complex, but once the infrastructure is there and all the components have been installed, it's easy and straightforward to maintain. All the components have logging capabilities so it's easy to identify issues. The duration of the deployment depends on the customer, since downtime might be required for reboots. Some firewall changes are required.

What about the implementation team?

Inhouse implementation, with Centrify support to assist

What was our ROI?

N/A

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Setup takes a while but - as with any new installation - planning is very important. After the initial setup has been completed, it is easy to scale out

Cost might be a deciding factor. However, it integrates with a multitude of other vendors and all of the capabilities have to be taken into account. It provides more than just Privileged Access Management.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

CyberArk. However, since the products have different features, it depends on the use case. In our case, Centrify gave the customer more benefits, since they already had other solutions in place as well.

What other advice do I have?

Planning is very important. However, if you encounter any issues, support is excellent and always assist in a timely fashion.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Straightforward to set up and easy to deploy but it needs support for software-defined infrastructure

Pros and Cons

  • "This is a cloud-based application, which makes it very easy to deploy."
  • "This solution needs better integration with third-party solutions because their ability to support other tools is very weak."

What is our primary use case?

This solution manages privileged access for all of our privileged accounts.

What is most valuable?

This is a cloud-based application, which makes it very easy to deploy.

What needs improvement?

This solution needs better integration with third-party solutions because their ability to support other tools is very weak. Other companies have invested very heavily in third-party tools and Centrify does support them well.

In the future, I would like to see support for containerization, CICD pipelines, and software-defined infrastructure. This is going to be critical and it is where this solution lags behind the competitors.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Centrify for the past four and a half years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We have had no issues in terms of stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Being a SaaS platform, it is easy to scale.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support is quite good. When I was implementing this solution, they were able to assist me and did a good job.

How was the initial setup?

Setting up the product is quite straightforward. However, migrating services and applications to it are always complicated because of the problems that you have with the applications.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price model is based on the number of devices and opposed to the number of users, and it is not very flexible. This means that if an organization is growing from an infrastructure perspective then the cost can escalate.

What other advice do I have?

The suitability of this solution depends on the environment because every organization is different. If somebody is looking for a straightforward PAM that is easy to deploy then I would recommend Centrify. If on the other hand, they have a more advanced or more complex environment with a software-defined infrastructure then I would suggest they use another solution.

I would rate this solution a six out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Public Cloud
