Citrix Hypervisor Stability

MS
System Administrator at KREBS+KIEFER

I rate Citrix Hypervisor's stability a six out of ten. The product works for small, medium, and enterprise companies. We have small offices with two or three people, where we give them one server with Citrix implemented, with a backup service, a local data repository, and all functions present in one system. It has worked for years, with and without former services, working even better with former services. We also have our headquarters with 600 workers. Over there, we have never faced really hard problems, but the solution is too dependent on people. We do not have the manpower to keep it running all the time because we have holidays when some staff members are not available. Failure can lead to breakdowns where all 600 people cannot work.

It has very good, reliable stability. It doesn't crash or freeze, and there are no bugs or glitches. I'd rate the stability nine out of ten.

It's stable if you have the experience. We have had machines with uptime of more than 1,000 days without patching or anything. I rate Citrix Hypervisor's stability a nine out of ten.

It is pretty stable. We have recently upgraded to a newer version. I used 7.6 for a long time, which was very stable in spite of being end-of-support. In terms of stability, they are doing a good job.

As far as stability, we have never had any problems that we've not been able to overcome. The only thing we have experienced is that sometimes when you are doing your backups or you are creating a snapshot, you get orphaned images or other unnecessary files that the system fails to auto clean. But this is not really any failure of the system as far as stability.

We have 16 licenses at the moment and we run it on four Dell R910 machines with four CPUs in each, and each is eight-core.

Citrix Hypervisor has been very stable. I have been impressed with updating of the hosts. For example, in the interface, you will be notified when there are updates and to perform the updates is quite simple.

The solution is extremely stable. It's much more stable than VMware or any other tool that we've tested. One might get away with freeware solutions, but if you need support, I recommend using the commercial solution.

There were several times where there were some glitches or it crashed.

Our network is a standalone one that is not connected to the outside. Being able to either update or get any type of support without allowing outside into the internal network was sometimes difficult.
