Code42 Incydr Other Solutions Considered

InfoGPS was evaluated. There were a couple of other tools that were evaluated. It really got down to the fact that as an organization, Code42 had the features we were looking for. They offered a tried-and-true product. One that had come from a long pedigree. They understood the whole realm of data security and privacy. They had data and security privacy experts on staff, which were pretty good. That was very helpful.

The other tool that we evaluated was from Barracuda. It was primarily around the Barracuda backups. It was called Barracuda Backup Live or something like that. It was pretty cool, but it was limited in terms of the feature set that we were looking for. We did a proof of concept, and it took us longer to get that up to speed than Code42.

I wasn't directly involved in the evaluation of backup solutions, though I do know that we tested several including Symantec and Mozy. I'm sure there were others as well.

Yes, probably too many to list. The free options were overly labor-intensive or unreliable, and the other commercial options seemed topheavy or overly dependent on a certain server architecture.

There was another product on the table during Code42 evaluation, but I was not on the team at that time, so I cannot comment on this point.

No. CrashPlan was the clear industry leader and we decided that they were the best general match for our needs. Since we did not evaluate other options, there would not be much to add to this answer.

Before choosing this product, we evaluated several: Retrospect, Carbonite, Baraccudaware, and Data Protection Manager. None were as flexible in architecture or pricing. CrashPlan's flexibility was the main selling point for us as we have some unique requirements.

It's been a long time but at this point, we haven't felt the need to reevaluate the market to find new options. We have also looked at services like Backblaze, and have used and liked them as well.

  • Lenovo Online Backup aka Mozy: This did not have the controls we were looking for. Price was similar. The administration was overly complex.
  • Datacastle RED: Price-wise, this was the least expensive, but it also had the worst performance and least functionality.

We moved away from a local disk and tape backup solution to Code42's CrashPlan. I looked at other cloud storage outfits and CrashPlan is the most personal and friendly company to work with. They are also one of the least expensive.

We did not look at any other vendors. They gave us a trial and we even got it extended due to not having enough cycles to put it thru its paces. They let you know what the benefits are for using the cloud vs a hybrid solution.

Before choosing this product, I did not evaluate other options. We looked at Datto, but did not trial it. We did choose to go with Code42, as it showed great promise and had other possibilities available, such as the newest release can potentially help have data leakage prevention / notification from the administrative console.
