Code42 Incydr ROI

Chuck_Mackey - PeerSpot reviewer
Director, Cybersecurity Consulting at a tech services company with 51-200 employees

We have absolutely seen an ROI. We found a lot of value in being able to detect the file sharing and potential exfiltration or actual exfiltration. Not everything is done maliciously. Sometimes, people just do it, but it is not done maliciously. They might embed a PowerPoint thinking they're embedding a PowerPoint pie chart in a presentation, but they're actually embedding the entire spreadsheet. We were able to detect that.

The other thing that it has helped us with is that it showed us where we had gaps in our security policies and acceptable use policies. It showed us how to measure the effectiveness of a policy. That was pretty strong, and we really liked that.

Unfortunately I'm not in a position to give accurate information about our ROI with CrashPlan. I would need to engage several different teams to obtain the accurate numbers.

Jus the other day a Sr. executive had their hard drive crash. Another Sr. executive had their laptop stolen from their vehicle. We recovered all files and we could tell that they were all recovered because we could report the last backup timestamp and the percentage (100%).

We measure ROI in business impact and CrashPlan more than paid for itself in those two recoveries. Our previous solution could never have achieved that.

The ROI with CrashPlan is that it has made the backup process seamless and saved countless users from losing data due to system failure or migrations.

We have saved $1000s and a whole lot of time recovering from cryptoware infections and data recovery that, with the old system, would have resulted in data loss or having to pay the ransom.

We have already gotten our investment back at least once, probably twice. We have used Code42 to migrate users to new machines and rebuild existing ones that have had HDD failures. We are even backing up our 2.5TB backup server, so when the building collapses in the next earthquake, our stuff is backed up!

Our research data is essentially invaluable, which means that it's both hard to quantify the value, and easy to justify most expenses to protect it.

ROI was immediate since we didn't have any way to monitor remote users backups. was able to recover accidentally deleted files within the first week. The files would have taken days to recreate at a significant man hour expenditure.

The amount of time spent on recreating data from a lost/stolen or crashed drive is the best piece. Also, with having an electronic solution for a legal hold, we no longer need to pull and store drives for legal reasons.

It gives us piece of mind and security. I call it an insurance policy. So as far as true ROI it is hard to calculate. All it will take is one major file getting deleted or drive failure and bingo it has paid for itself.

ROI is easily measured with the first person that was able to do file restores that would have otherwise lost their files. The cost to lost files is virtually priceless. While nobody knows the value of the files that they have, we do know that they do not have to recreate any of them or dig any up from backups on tape if there were any to begin with.
