We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
The most valuable feature is its consistency. The ability to clone backups.I have everything I need in the backup or in the partition. It works with different types of partitions or different OSs.Stability is always good. I have used Acronis for 10 years now, if not more. I have never had a problem with availability, etc.It is a very fast and reliable backup, which requires less management and restores quickly. The user interface (UI) is easy to use.It is fast and easy for an image-based backup across all platforms.

One nice feature with Backup Exec is mainly that disaster can happen to any server and the disk image can be destroyed very easily. It's also easy to fully email the backup image and restore the server. It is a good backup tool.We are satisfied with the stability of the product. In the global business world, Veritas has a very good name. I think they have a good solid product, and they are always trying to improve it, and update it. ;They know what the client actually needs, and they are up to the challenge of satisfying those needs. The backup solution comes in different versions to support different platforms. It is one of the most stable backup solutions.Backup Exec 2012 R2 is a very good product for the Windows file system and SQL backups. It is very user-friendly, but the next version Backup Exec 2014 that is released and the other next versions of Backup Exec product is not so friendly. One of the valuable features is the instant recovery for VMs. It reduces the RTO (Recovery Time Objective) drastically.

Cons
This is not a feature-rich solution.I would like to see better centralized management, because I use it across multiple clients. To have a console that centrally manages them would be nice.I would change the GUI a little to make it a bit more interactive. It should have a slightly more updated look, not something which looks like it was designed five years ago despite the fact it is easy to follow and very appealing. It would be nice if it could support more types of storage: EMC, HPE, Veeam, etc.If there was a wizard that would lead you down a road, when creating a backup, that would probably be better than having to go online or call somebody to actually do a backup. It's not intuitive...I can't select a network location. I have to map a drive on the server, and then I have to select the mapped drive in order for it to put the backup out there. It would be nice to have it on the cloud platform without using third-party equipment. This might be a lack of understanding on my part, but it's difficult to purge old backups.

Veritas Backup Exec should be more user-friendly. The costs should also be much lower and it should be easier to go through the disaster recovery process.I would like to see this solution improve on faster restoration. Currently, it takes a long time to restore my data.It would be nice to improve the backup acceleration and the fast restoration required.Enhanced support for cloud backup needs to be added.Initial setup is a bit complex and needs some expertise for troubleshooting when something goes wrong. It is not a recommended software when it comes to large environments where there has to be a minimal Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and/or Recover Point Objective (RPO).Firstly, the GUI for 2014 is mostly confusing, i.e., if you need to add any additional technical features, then it doesn't require a change to the GUI.There still a lot of room for improvement in synthetic technologies, especially when targeted to deduplication media.

Pricing and Cost Advice
Our licensing fees are on a yearly basis.I like the pricing, and that it is easy to use and has performed well. When it comes to elements like cost, I think it is the only backup solution which has perpetual licenses, whereby you buy the license once and for all.It has already paid off itself in the first few months that we implemented it.I would say that at the pricepoint that it's at, it's definitely worth the money.

Veritas licensing is somewhat expensive. They have to decrease the price.I would like to see a better licensing model. They changed it and it's just horrendous. It is cheap compared to the other backup technologies. It all depends on the requirements.Depending on the scenario, it can cost less than half of the price of other methods.Pricing is similar, but they don´t offer the same options/technology.If your company can afford it, go for it.
