We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The product offers a centralized platform for managing activities across many environments, applications, etc.""ActiveBatch helped us automate and schedule routine tasks such as data backups, file transfers, database updates, and report generation, which frees IT staff to focus on other studies.""It is very useful in sending confidential files through FPP servers.""ActiveBatch provides summary reports and logs for further analysis and improvements in monitoring servers, which is very handy.""Since I started using this product, I have been able to easily track everything as it mainly monitors, alerts, and looks after all the services - even across platform scheduling - which has helped me immensely.""One of the most valuable features is the job templates. If we need to create an FTP job, we just drag over the FTP template and fill out the requirements using the variables that ActiveBatch uses. And that makes it reusable. We can create a job once but use it for many different clients.""The nice thing about ActiveBatch is once we have created a specific job that can be easily be replicated to another job, then minimal changes will have to be made. This makes things nice. Reduction of coding is substantial in a lot of cases. The replication of one job to another is just doing a few minor tweaks and rolling it into production. This decreases our development costs substantially.""Easy to configure and simple to develop new features."

"It is really a robust product.""We have a lot of nightly jobs that need to be run. Therefore, we perform a lot of calculations and processes during nighttime hours.""The solution is very user friendly so anyone can use it.""It has improved my organization through automation of back office and infrastructure procedures, and by integrating and orchestrating key business applications spanning multiple technology stacks.""The automated solution is the most valuable piece. Otherwise, we would have to be doing everything manually on every server.""The most valuable features of AppWorx Workload Automation are simplicity and reliability. Additionally, they recently transformed the UI which is better.""Scheduling is a good feature.""The interface is good."

Cons
"The help center and documentation are not that helpful.""An area for improvement in ActiveBatch Workload Automation is its interface or GUI. It could be a little better. There isn't any additional feature I'd like to see in the tool, except for the GUI, everything looks good.""One thing I've noticed is that navigation can be difficult unless you are familiar with the structure that we have in place. If someone else had to look at our ActiveBatch console and find a job, they might not know where to find it.""The UI could potentially offer a more refined and user-friendly experience, fostering smoother interactions and facilitating easier navigation for users engaging with the application.""They have some crucial design flaws within the console that still need to be worked out because it is not working exactly how we hoped to see it, e.g., just some minor things where when you hit the save button, then all of a sudden all your job's library items collapse. Then, in order to continue on with your testing, you have to open those back up. I have taken that to them, and they are like, "Yep. We know about it. We know we have some enhancements that need to be taken care of. We have more developers now." They are working towards taking the minor things that annoy us, resolving them, and getting them fixed.""We have faced a couple of issues where we were supposed to log a defect with ActiveBatch. That said, the Active batch Vendor Support is very responsive and reliable.""Whenever there is an overload, we are seeing crashes happening.""Some improvements can be made to the user interface."

"Reporting, forecasting and intelligence could be improved.""It is not really scaling per say because they are not putting much into it. They are trying to push their new product.""It is difficult to integrate with the Active Directory (AD).""The graphical interface is pretty cool but not the best so it could use some improvement.""The scalability could improve.""The compliance features are limited to the server and not the entire infrastructure.""It has been a deprecated product, because it is so old. There has been a couple of new solutions that are a little more advanced.""As a general process automation and integration tool, it has been superseded by other offerings, notably the Workload Automation suite."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The price was fairly in line with other automation tools. I don't think it's exorbitantly expensive, relatively speaking."
  • "I don't think we've ever had a problem with the pricing or licensing. Even the maintenance fees are very much in line. They are not excessive. I think for the support that you get, you get a good value for your money. It's the best value on the market."
  • "It allows for lower operational overhead."
  • "Currently, we are paying approximately $7,000 yearly, which includes support."
  • "ActiveBatch is currently redesigning themselves. In the past, they were a low cost solution for automation. They had a nice tool that was very inexpensive. With their five-year plan, they will be more enhancement-driven, so they're trying to improve their software, customer service, and the way that their customers get information from them. In doing that, they're raising the price of their base system. They changed from one pricing model to another, which has caused some friction between ActiveBatch and us. We're working through that right now with them. That's one of the reasons why we're why we were evaluating other software packages."
  • "The pricing was fair. There are additional costs for the plugins. We have the standard licensing fees for different pieces, then we have the plugins which were add-ons. However, we expected that."
  • "I like ActiveBatch Workload Automation's licensing model because they're not holding you down on an agentless model or agent model, where every server needs to have an agent. That's the main selling point of the solution and I hope they stay that way."
  • "If you compare ActiveBatch licensing to Control-M, you're looking at $50,000 as opposed to millions."
  • More ActiveBatch by Redwood Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Licensing options are fairly straightforward."
  • "We are satisfied with the pricing."
  • "The price for annual licenses is a bit expensive so pricing is rated a two out of ten."
  • "The cost model is based on the number of orchestrated systems used."

AppWorx Workload Automation automates your Ellucian’s Banner or Fiserv DNA processing. This innovative, best-in-class task scheduling solution accelerates your processing, provides visibility and control over business processes, and mitigates risk in both environments.

    AppWorx Workload Automation Can:

    • Automate banner processes without writing scripts
    • Automate testing
    • Document process flows and procedures
    • Maintain a history and audit trail of production runs
    • Automate migration from development to test to production environments
    • Reduce training
    • Eliminate human errors associated with manual tasks

Benefits of AppWorx Workload Automation For Your Ellucian’s Banner

    • Automate recurring business processes, such as administration and record-keeping, while complying with state and federal reporting requirements.
    • Batch jobs are processed accurately.
    • If there are any inconsistencies or job failures, Automic for Banner immediately sends email notifications to the appropriate personnel.
    • Significantly improve your return on investment.
    • Automating batch processing and report generation.
    • Eliminating server overload by using a combination of features (AppWorx provides queues to control the number of jobs that can be submitted to a server at any given time, can spot duplicate runs of the same reports, and can delay impromptu reports submitted by individuals until all regularly scheduled reports are processed, etc.).
    • Eliminates the need for developers to write shell, PERL, or batch scripts to automate scheduling.
    • Automatically keeps a history of every job run, the parameters that were used, and the output generated at each step. These records are readily available for viewing online and can be printed for reference.
    • Export and import utilities make migration an error-free, repeatable process. Database logins, printers, and libraries can be mapped when you are moving process flows to a new environment. Mapping eliminates potentially erroneous code changes.

Benefits of AppWorx Workload Automation For Your Fiserv DNA Processing

    • Run DNA jobs directly, eliminating the need to copy and release queues for each batch cycle.
    • Automatically run DNA jobs at the optimum time using sophisticated scheduling.
    • Run multiple DNA jobs at the same time in parallel from one batch station.
    • Eliminate potential data entry errors by automatically retrieving parameters from your enterprise databases.
    • Automatically check the results from one step to ensure data integrity before continuing to the next step.
    • Alert production analysts to problems the instant they occur.
    • Coordinate processing steps across all software applications.
    • Automatically distribute output files to vendors.
    • Perform all operations from one GUI client.
