Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We are getting security for each and every API.""The product has a good user interface.""It enables us to move faster with new products because we have this layer of protection set up in our infrastructure.""I like that the charges are all based on usage and labor costs. For the time that we spend onboarding almost 252020 FQDN, Akamai charges us only for the traffic usage, but it's only charging us for the labor costs for onboarding.""The support that we got from their technical team has been fantastic. I have never experienced this level of support from other CDN providers.""The features are powerful and better than F5.""It is scalable for DDoS.""Traffic filtering and WAF are valuable."

"Many websites require an SSL certificate because they sell stuff and want SSL. Cloudflare comes with an SSL certificate built in. It's automatic. You sign yourself up for Cloudflare, and an SSL certificate automatically protects your website. You don't necessarily need a certificate if you have a connection between your website and your host, the server, Cloudflare, and the host.""The technical support is good.""Easier http to https redirect using page rules""We're using dynamic components to build flexible pages to create and manage Git merge requests for code and reviews.""The DDoS protection is the most valuable aspect of the solution.""Generally, I am satisfied with this product.""The solution is very good at mitigating threats.""Cloudflare has many features."

Cons
"It would be nice if Akamai Web Application Protector's price is lowered and made cheaper.""It's fine for a simple tool, but as I recall, if you encounter a lot of bots, scrapers, and other things, you'll need this tool bot and this other thing they offer called Bot Manager.""Akamai App and API Protector is very new to me, so I do not have any insights on improvement areas for the product. However, when we ask for some help, it can take some time. We understand that the job is done by professionals, but if that time can be reduced, it would be great.""The solution could offer even more integrations.""The custom rules must be improved.""The performance of the cloud monitoring tool is low.""We are experimenting with EdgeWorkers to write our own code at the Edge level. It could grow to be much better.""The pricing could be reduced a bit."

More Akamai App and API Protector Cons →

"One area of improvement is in the Access Rules. Hypothetically, if we wanted to block or challenge traffic outside of the United States, the only way to currently do that (as far as I know) is to enter every single country outside of the United States. That could be a labor intensive job. A solution could be to enable users to create a rule where traffic is only allowed within a certain country.""I think the APIs are a little bit hard for us to work with. The APIs could be more open so that we could integrate better with our SolarWinds or our monitoring solution.""We are a product integrator and reseller, and we would like to have a better partner relationship, similar to a channel sales relationship. Sometimes we are on our own or get diverted by Cloudflare because they have direct sales, which competes with us and makes it difficult to build a relationship with this company since we want to be an MSP or a managed service provider for the solution.""Technical support is lacking.""It should have easier documentation for the configuration. It's very technical and people who aren't technical should also be able to do the configuration.""Latencies are always a problem.""If they improve on the placement of their data centers, it would be better. I'm living in a remote area. I would like to connect to them without any kind of lag.""The timing aspect can lead to it being considered overpriced. This is a particular concern we have with Cloudflare, as they may struggle with accurately detecting the client."

If you have a connection between your website and your host, the server, Cloudflare, and the host, you don't necessarily need a certificate.”  Spencer M., Owner at Tech Exchange

“What I like best about Cloudflare is that my company can use it to trace and manage applications and monitor traffic. The solution tells you if there's a spike in traffic. Cloudflare also sends you a link to check your equipment and deployment and track it through peering, so it's a valuable tool.” Daniel P., Network engineer at Ufinet

The most valuable feature of Cloudflare is the GUI. You are able to control the solution very well through the interface. There is a lot of functionality that is embedded in the service.” A PeerSpot user who is a Competence Center Manager at a tech services company.
