Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I like the ability to run custom KQL queries. I don't know if that feature is specific to Sentinel. As far as I know, they are using technology built into Azure's Log Analytics app. Sentinel integrates with that, and we use this functionality heavily.""Sentinel's most important feature is the ability to centralize all the logs in one place. There's no need to search multiple systems for information.""The best feature is that onboarding to the SIM solution is quite easy. If you are using cloud-based solutions, it's just a few clicks to migrate it.""I've worked on most of the top SIEM solutions, and Sentinel has an edge in most areas. For example, it has built-in SOAR capabilities, allowing you to run playbooks automatically. Other vendors typically offer SOAR as a separate licensed solution or module, but you get it free with Sentinel. In-depth incident integration is available out of the box.""Sentinel pricing is good""The analytics has a lot of advantages because there are 300 default use cases for rules and we can modify them per our environment. We can create other rules as well. Analytics is a useful feature.""The most valuable feature is the onboarding of the workloads. You can see all that has been onboarded in your account on the dashboards.""What is most useful, is that it has a good connection to the Microsoft ecosystem, and I think that's the key part."

More Microsoft Sentinel Pros →

"The paid version of the solution has reporting and better scalability options.""The dashboard is the solution's most valuable aspect. It brings everything into one central point where I can actually look at it and go, "Okay, I understand what's going on."""OSSIM is the only solution that includes the large number of modules that we need: a vulnerability scanner, a network IDS system, a host IDS system.""Inbuilt IDS, inbuilt integration with threat intelligence platform and with vulnerability assessment modules.""Its user-friendliness is the most valuable. It is very easy to use and explore. The dashboard is very well packaged and integrated. You don't have to spend a lot of time in configuring it and checking out the RPM etc. It is also free and very powerful.""The solution is very stable. Compared to Qradar and Splunk, it's very stable.""The initial setup was straightforward. I didn't have any problems.""With AlienVault you get everything in one box."

More AlienVault OSSIM Pros →

"The ability to tailor an environment to suit our specific use cases is a major advantage of ArcSight compared to other logging servers such as Splunk.""The product has a valuable interface.""The platform helps us improve threat detection capabilities.""We found the correlation engine to be very good. It takes logs from different types of devices and does the correlation in a good way.""The most valuable feature of ArcSight Intelligence is a single console where the entire dashboard gives all the connected details in a single place."

Cons
"It could have a better API to be able to automate many things more extensively and get more extensive data and more expensive deployment possibilities. It can gain some points on the automation part and the integration part. The API is very limited, and I would like to see it extended a bit more.""Sentinel could improve its ticketing and management. A few customers I have worked with liked to take the data created in Sentinel. You can make some basic efforts around that, but the customers wanted to push it to a third-party system so they could set up a proper ticketing management system, like ServiceNow, Jira, etc.""Add more out-of-the-box connectors with other SaaS platforms/applications.""Its documentation is not so simple. It is easy for somebody who is Microsoft certified or more closely attached to Microsoft solutions. It is not easy for those who are working on open-source platforms. There isn't a central point where everything is documented, and there is no specific training or certification.""Sentinel's alerts and notifications are not fully optimized for mobile devices. The overall reporting and the analytics processes for the end user should also be improved. Also, the compatibility and availability of data sources and reports are not always perfect.""I can't think of anything other than just getting the name out there. I think a lot of customers don't fully understand the full capabilities of Azure Sentinel yet. It is kind of like when they're first starting to use Azure, it might not be something they first think about. So, they should just kind of get to the point where it is more widely used.""The interface could be more user-friendly. It''s a small improvement that they could make if they wanted to.""The only thing is sometimes you can have a false positive."

More Microsoft Sentinel Cons →

"The incidence reporting could be better.""We need more dashboards and we need more customization for dashboards.""The user interface needs to be friendlier across the board.""AlienVault OSSIM’s configuration and integration could be a little easier.""AlienVault OSSIM should improve the deployment and make it unified like the USM.""GUI could be improved.""When comparing AlienVault OSSIM to other solutions it looks a bit outdated. Additionally, they need to improve their integration.""I don't like to work on OSSIM because it is unpredictable."

More AlienVault OSSIM Cons →

"We haven't found the product fully scalable.""The frequency of the updates that we are getting can be improved because the number and types of incidents that are happening at the global level are far more than what we are receiving. The frequency of updates feeds related to our rules should be increased. There should be more frequent information about the new rules that are coming and the global threats that are happening. There should be better options for dashboard creation. At present, the dashboards are good, but there is scope to make them better.""ArcSight Intelligence's pricing needs improvement.""ArcSight Intelligence is a bit slower, and its speed should be improved.""The dashboard is not user-friendly and is in black and white."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It comes with a Microsoft subscription which the customer has, so they don't have to invest somewhere else."
  • "It is a consumption-based license model. bands at 100, 200, 400 GB per day etc. Azure Sentinel Pricing | Microsoft Azure"
  • "Good monthly operational cost model for the detection and response outcomes delivered, M365 logs don't count toward the limits which is a good benefit."
  • "I have had mixed feedback. At one point, I heard a client say that it sometimes seems more expensive. Most of the clients are on Office 365 or M365, and they are forced to take Azure SIEM because of the integration."
  • "It is kind of like a sliding scale. There are different tiers of pricing that go from $100 per day up to $3,500 per day. So, it just kind of depends on how much data is being stored. There can be additional costs to the standard license other than the additional data. It just kind of depends on what other services you're spinning up in Azure, or if you're using something like Azure log analytics."
  • "I am just paying for the log space with Azure Sentinel. It costs us about $2,000 a month. Most of the logs are free. We are only paying money for Azure Firewall logs because email logs or Azure AD logs are free to use for us."
  • "Sentinel is a bit expensive. If you can figure a way of configuring it to meet your needs, then you can find a way around the cost."
  • "Azure Sentinel is very costly, or at least it appears to be very costly. The costs vary based on your ingestion and your retention charges."

  • "AlienVault pricing is the best. Whatever cost you are paying, you are getting a return on every penny... It's not like your IBM, your QRadar, or Splunk, where the cost is too high."
  • "The solution is open source, so it's free to use."
  • "OSSIM is free."
  • "The licensing fees for the non-community edition are paid on an annual basis, and there are no costs in addition to this."
  • "AlienVault OSSIM is free."
  • "We are using the community version, which can be used for free."
  • "We are using a free version of the solution. If you purchase a license there are more features available but the price is a little high. The solution should be cheaper to allow more customers to be able to afford it."
  • "The price of AlienVault OSSIM is too high sometimes for us to present to our customers. The price should be lower. We are on a three-year license to use the solution. We had to pay extra for the support."
  • More AlienVault OSSIM Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Its price is average and not very high. Splunk might be a bit cheaper than this. Its licensing is on a monthly basis."
  • "The solution is expensive and only suitable for enterprise environments."
  • "ArcSight Intelligence is an expensive solution."
  • "It is an expensive platform."
  • "They offer perpetual licenses for the product."
