We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"In the case of a mobile banking application, AppDynamics Mobile Real-User Monitoring successfully reduced the response time from eight seconds to just one second. In another example, the tool identified an issue within the mobile app, causing lost transactions in the billing system.""There are many features that are very valuable to us, but the ability to monitor the status of the users' experience in real-time is one of them.""Whenever the application crashes from user behavior, we can easily simulate the error. We are happy with this feature and find it to be valuable.""For anybody who is looking into enhancing or improving their application code quality, I would definitely recommend this solution.""We have found the scalability to be quite good.""The most valuable feature of the solution is its GUI."

"We are able to spot issues much quicker with the use of the out-of-the-box metrics given to us by CA. But we also develop that further with the use of the EPA Agent and expand what we can give and show the business by creating our own scripts. This has allowed us to develop our own self-monitoring and before anybody else sees the issue we are on hand to solve that as quickly as possible.""The initial setup is straightforward.""The most valuable feature of Broadcom DX Application Performance Management is its very light model with monitoring of servers and network items.""Cross-VM transaction traces provide a complete "what happened where".""Attribute decoration is a unique and very powerful feature. We can add meaningful meta information based on our internal demand.""WAS GC monitoring enhanced our application performance and DB SQL performance.""The deployment was easy.""The ability to accomplish the identification of the root cause of problems with applications in drill-down level by integrating the suite with tools for managing and monitoring."

Cons
"The only improvement I see is intercepting calls in a mobile application without injecting additional code. Currently, when instrumenting or monitoring a mobile application, it's necessary to release updates, prompt users to upgrade, and inject code into the backend. It would be beneficial if there were a method to intercept these calls without requiring users to download and upgrade the application. However, I'm unsure about the feasibility of such an approach.""In terms of improvements we would like to see, we want to understand what the battery consumption metrics are whenever a user is viewing. It would be really helpful for us if we could get those details levels.""The way the agentless monitoring and agent monitoring get used is to be decided by the user, but there is no clarification on the setup phase or on how and why to use the aforementioned options.""I would like to see accommodation for millisecond granularity, as we only have one-second granularity now.""There may be some older technologies that are still covered, however, it's not as plug-and-play. You can still do it, however, it takes slightly more effort for engineers to cover old technologies such as C++, Delphi, and so on. It still can be done. It's just not as easy as, for example, covering Java.""I would like to see a better way to automate actions based on the events generated by the tool."

"Dashboards need to be improved in order to make them self-explanatory.""The reason it's not a ten is because they don't focus enough on improving over time like other competitors do who have a more modern and complete tool.""They can make it easier to configure.""We enountered stability issues. They were mitigated by performance tuning within infrastructure.""The area of improvement is related to the areas of application onboarding and instrumentation, where the product has certain shortcomings.""The front-end representation should match other competitors such as AppDynamics.""A CA APM agent takes a lot of memory. That is one disadvantage. If you configure CA APM correctly it will still consume around 15 to 20 percent of memory.""The reports are a key part of APM in my vision because it is through them that we manage to generate the evidence to direct the development team and operational support to address. However, we can not extract the information of the tool through reports. We have needed several times to use screen print screen, CTRL + C and CTRL + V."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It does require licensing to be paid."
  • "I believe there was probably an extra charge whenever I wanted to contact the support team."
  • "I rate AppDynamics Mobile Real-User Monitoring's pricing as seven out of ten. Mobile monitoring is paid based on the number of instances utilizing the mobile monitoring service, which increases as the scale grows. Consequently, your mobile user count can proportionally surpass all other applications."
  • More AppDynamics Mobile Real-User Monitoring Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Depends on the size of the product you need."
  • "Althougth it is a bit expensive, it is really worth it"
  • "There is some research needed to determine licensing costs, based on the number of DataPower instances for the Nastel agent, for example."
  • "Negotiate a lot, but do not forget to buy the product because it is worth it."
  • "Pricing and licensing are not issues."
  • "On pricing, CA is very competitive. I think that's going to help in the long run."
  • "Setup costs are quite competitive relative to other solutions, and simpler."
  • "Dynatrace is the most expensive of these tools followed by AppDynamics which is "medium-expensive." CA APM is a bit lower in price than either Dynatrace or AppDynanics... In my opinion, if you can afford it, go for AppDynamics instead of CA APM."
