We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
It runs completely flawlessly and seamlessly every day.The way Appium server interacts with mobile apps is fantastic. It provides all the information about the elements inside the app, Android as well as iOS. I can interact with the element quickly, just type some text or get some text values from the element - whether it's a drop-down, or web text, or a native element.

It has helped teams within our organization become more aware of the testing requirements in terms of risk and priority.Compared to other tools we have been looking at, you don't have to be a programmer to operate it, though it helps. It also a product that can be used by business people. We are satisfied with the support of Tricentis. We have multiple applications, and it supports parallel execution. It has mobile automation.

Cons
Configuration-wise, there is a lot of room for improvement. It needs to accommodate applications that use React.js and AngularJS.An application developed on the Unity platform, such as a gaming application, objects are moving in that case. Interacting with those elements is still lacking in Appium. Appium doesn't have the internal library to play with the Unity platform. That is a huge lack right now.

Not being able to mask test data in relation to testing data management, in my opinion, is also a limitation.Setup wasn't that straightforward; it was more complex. It all depends on the environment, because there were a lot of errors on our applications. Therefore, it wasn't an easy setup for us.It needs better integration with JIRA.I would like a better user interface.Making it more stable would be good because we get around 90% stability.

Overview
Appium is an open-source tool for automating native, mobile web, and hybrid applications on iOS and Android platforms. Native apps are those written using the iOS or Android SDKs. Mobile web apps are web apps accessed using a mobile browser (Appium supports Safari on iOS and Chrome or the built-in 'Browser' app on Android). Hybrid apps have a wrapper around a "webview" -- a native control that enables interaction with web content. Projects like Phonegap, make it easy to build apps using web technologies that are then bundled into a native wrapper, creating a hybrid app. Importantly, Appium is "cross-platform": it allows you to write tests against multiple platforms (iOS, Android), using the same API. This enables code reuse between iOS and Android testsuites.
