We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Some of the most valuable features of SolarWinds are the topology discovery and network performance analysis.""The reporting of the solution is very good.""The product has a great dashboard.""The sum solution, NTA, and DPA.""Technical support is always live and they're supportive.""I have found the most valuable feature is application performance management."

"Zabbix can use old data to current data to set the threshold. We can use previous data to set the threshold.""There is less computing power needed for scaling.""We use Zabbix to monitor our organization's IT infrastructure and workstations. We don't use Microsoft Intune since it's expensive. The tool's real-time alerting system has proved crucial for us, particularly when a new device joins a network that is not one of our own devices. It notifies us about the presence of this new device, allowing us to investigate further. Additionally, it alerts us about disk usage, memory usage, and the software installed on the machine.""The most valuable feature is the alert and alarm monitoring.""The integration capabilities and APIs are the best part.""It not only provides the preconfigured item monitoring feature, but it is also easy to configure custom items.""We detect problems before the customer does and before it actually happens using the predictive functions in Zabbix.""The implementation process is very straightforward."

Cons
"The solution should be more user-friendly.""The integration with Unix services should be a bit more straightforward.""The implementation needs improvement. It needs to get modernized with the newer cloud scenario in both public and private deployment models.""In terms of the technology, I think they need to put some more advanced troubleshooting into SolarWinds, in terms of AI capabilities. That's the next generation, especially in the cases of APIs which have already adopted AI capabilities into their products.""I would like to see more integration with other tools that are available on the market.""AppOptics would benefit from having a much more centralized view."

More SolarWinds AppOptics Cons →

"Implementing Zabbix is difficult. I've deployed many solutions over the years, and Zabbix is the hardest to implement. You have to do some development to get it to work with IBM, Micro Focus, or HP products.""Zabbix could improve when it comes to large-scale use cases. Additionally, the inventory could be better when connecting to other solutions, such as ServiceNow. There show to be better integration with other platforms and storage.""There's a small module of APM, however, it is not an enhanced version. People usually ask for a full-fledged APM solution.""It should be easy to modify the front end.""Zabbix can use better documentation and support for troubleshooting.""The solution needs to add remote features.""The integration of the product is not so easy, especially when it comes to the application database.""The only improvement I would suggest, revolves around its AI and ML capabilities."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Mostly, it's a perpetual license. We don't have any customers using the subscription right now—it's mostly a perpetual license that the customers purchase. The licensing is based on the number of elements, whereas other solutions are node-based."
  • "I believe the current licensing cost is reasonable."
  • "Since it's a negotiable rate, I would rate the pricing as a five out of five."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
