Regarding scalability, it's unlimited with Data Protector. You can link multiple installations and let them work together. They can share backup devices. You have many possibilities with Data Protector. It's very proficient. The feature that was most valuable was that we could restore one mailbox and we could do different backups for different databases. The solution allows us to be able to backup and exchange directly, to backup Microsoft exchange. This solution is quite stable because we have only three users.Performs the backup properly and protects our data.I have used Micro Focus Data Protector for the file backup facilities. My primary use of the software is to backup file data. It's supports Unix, Linux, all of the OS's. It's very stable software.

Cons
In the most recent version of premium plus the replication has been removed, and it should re-added to the solution. The only problem with the solution is that when I change the drive capacity, it has to do a full backup. It's a problem when I have five servers to backup. When I only want to change the size of the drive, I have to do a full backup that can take one week.It should be easier to switch between backup locations. We have multiple data storage locations and sometimes one of those storages need to be replaced. It would be nice if they made it easier to reconfigure the backup configuration.Every time I change the disc, I have to do a full backup. We cannot restore each user's mailbox. Each user's mailbox should be independently restorable. Also, this solution is very slow. If you select all of the servers, it runs for a long time... It needs to be faster. Finally, If anything happens to one server we should be able to switch to another server.

People prefer Veeam because the interface is easier, and Data Protector is difficult in comparison. It's very expensive compared to Veeam and other similar solutions. The solution is not intuitive enough. I think they should work on the user experience and the graphical interface. These can be a lot better. The technical support was very slow. The technical support is poor and should be improved. They should design the solution so that it is much easier for deployment and make the UI easy to use.The new backup systems are using new mechanisms for the recovery phases; for example, VM, recovery and testing the backup before recovering it. These features are not available in Data Protector.

Pricing and Cost Advice
Normally our customers purchase the premium plus license, rather than the standard one, which provides more options. We only have the maintenance of three standard UDP licenses. Each license is 50 Euro. There are some additional costs for the storage and software but it has nothing to do with the UDP.I do not work with the pricing or licensing issues of the solution for our organization.

The licensing cost was not annual. We didn't pay any license. We paid when we deployed and we didn't pay for anything after that. There were no additional fees after the initial payment. In Data Protector, if you need extra features, you need to buy the agents for these features. Some of the features are Terabytes, some of them are agents. There's some complexity in the pricing and licensing.
