We performed a comparison between ARIS BPA and SAP Signavio Process Manager based on our users’ reviews in five categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: Because ARIS BPA is more expensive, has a more difficult initial setup, and is less user friendly, SAP Signavio Process Manager ultimately wins out in this comparison.
"BPA, the modeling tool, is the main module used because of our need for documentation."
"In addition to our applications, we have also stored, in ARIS, the footprint of where those applications have been implemented. That means we know in which country a given application has been implemented. With embedded geolocation, we have a very visual world map, where we can see the footprint of each application."
"Features like SAP SolMan sync, Alfabet EA integration (another Software AG product)."
"ARIS is probably the most mature product in terms of modeling an enterprise architecture so that it has context."
"The initial setup is easy."
"One of the many advantages of ARIS is that it is supported by a very strong BPM community, which is critical for us. Although it has been in business for many years, it is still at an early stage of evolution. There are so many instances where your specific use case or requirement for using ARIS hasn't necessarily been matured across the sector. So, you need access to a very active community to help you explore possible solutions and ways in which ARIS can be used to achieve those use cases."
"The solution has come up with a web portal that makes it easy to model and show to clients."
"It helps the business make an informed decision."
"It is possible to do the whole drafting process at the same time in Sagnavio so you don't have a double effort of writing it once, arranging it and entering it again."
"I like the collaboration and the real-time aspects of it."
"We could increase the transparency and speed for the new ERP introduction. The status and changes by the new system are now clear to everybody and it is a great tool to train the people."
"The most valuable feature of SAP Signavio Process Manager is the ability to do business process models."
"Process management/Process governance is what we think Signavio is very good at."
"There are many valuable features, of course. I would say the main value of Signavio is to have your current process map in a way that is easy to read and derive optimization actions to make it leaner, faster, more user friendly, etc. Another great feature is the visualization, which is easy to see and read. How they map the process is also very user friendly, with drag-and-drop functionality. Also, it's a very self-explanatory, user-friendly solution."
"This is one of the best solutions and it is easy to implement."
"The collaboration hub is good because it allows us to share the models that we've captured and to get comments back, and we don't all have to be in the same room, it can be remote and over time."
"Integration with third-party tools should be improved (e.g. based on APIs)."
"The user interface could be more intuitive and better designed."
"If you want to create new reports then you have to use JavaScript, or ARIS script as they call it, which is beyond the competencies of most people."
"The areas of ARIS where we see room for improvement are actually related to the background services that support it. Over the last number of years, Software AG has moved from an on-premises solution into deploying a SaaS solution to their enterprise base. That has been really successful from my point of view, as I have been a customer of ARIS, managing the relationship, for a couple years. Certain support functions around the knowledge base, customer service, and the cross and upselling of modules within the core ARIS component are lagging behind the SaaS movement."
"Since ARIS 9.X was released, the product has not been as robust and responsive as the previous versions."
"The user experience's usability (in general) should be improved as the tool is updated."
"We should have the ability to download ARIS EPCs to Visio."
"I would like to see the reporting aspects improved."
"I would like to be able to link a single word within a textual description directly to the glossary."
"Typically, a business process management suite would cover the whole lifecycle, from discovery to optimization and operations. This is running on the process server and providing some kind of low-code environment for developing business solutions. I think the latter part is missing, where SAP Connector comes in. Specifically, the execution of processes is missing, where you would design forms to take orders. This is typically part of some development environment for the process server to run processes from out of the models."
"There is always room for improvement is the capability of integration with other solutions."
"There are a lot of challenges with Process Manager. For example, we wanted to create a process map from an Excel sheet, but Signavio doesn't have that capability. I have raised this issue with Signavio support, but it is one of the bottlenecks we are currently facing."
"Its reporting feature could have customization options."
"The collaboration and commenting are great. However, I think it would be more useful for people to get notifications of comments straight-away so we can react even quicker to them than we already can."
"It's very user-orientated, which is why I gave it a high rating, even if it is not perfect in every corner."
"There is room for improvement in analytics. People don't realize it, but the world has changed in the last six to eight months. Customers want to see AI like ChatGPT and ML capabilities in all aspects of business processes and reporting."

You can export all process model attributes (including custom attributes) to Excel. For example, we set a process maturity attribute against our processes and then extract it against process sponsors and owners.
Selection and filtering are done in Excel, not in the reporting tool. There are quite a few standard reports as well. You can import data to the repository for use in process attributes (standard or custom) - we did this with our process roles. You could do it with any other layer of your business or technical architecture.
You can create process links for both vertical drop-down and lateral links between processes which end users can navigate. Also, you can hide or show attributes and custom attributes for different user groups who browse the published architecture.
I don't understand what is meant by "...create a custom report for push..." Perhaps you mean schedule reports for automatic dissemination? If so, no you can't do that. However, I'm aware that an API can be purchased that will likely allow you to do much more in the way of integration and automation but we don't have that.
I hope this helps.
