Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution has been very stable.""The agentless architecture has minimized our software footprint at the client level.""It has helped us to provide comprehensive data protection with high recovery rates and a malware scanning feature.""I have found all the features useful in the solution."

More Asigra Pros →

"This solution is quite stable because we have only three users.""The most valuable feature of Data Protector is its integration with VMware. A lot of software these days integrates with VMware, and you can run some of these things on virtual machines. You can even have your backup manager running on a virtual machine and use physical managers to move data around. Their VMware integration isn't too bad, but Commvault has that feature, and many other backup products do.""What we find most valuable in Micro Focus Data Protector is that it provides Japanese data protection, for example, it protects information such as the full Japanese name, address, etc.""Ability to automatically detect and secure new data sources without requiring manual configuration intervention.""The solution is easy to use.""The initial setup is straightforward if you understand Data Protector.""Data Protector is very good at automation. From the time of the backup, verification, and copy to tape, it is very good. I don't need to touch it, it will do it by itself.""Performs the backup properly and protects our data."

Cons
"The management could be a bit better.""They should improve the malware scanning capabilities, extending it to protect cloud application data."

More Asigra Cons →

"VM backups needs to be improved. They need to make it similar to the way Veeam and Commvault are doing the virtual backups.""The graphical interface needs to be improved.""It's very expensive compared to Veeam and other similar solutions.""In SAP restoration, we faced issues with changing the SIDs and changing the path for every backup object. It is quite a lengthy process to do that.""The product can be developed by including functionalities like DR, CDP, and SureBackup, which are currently unavailable in the solution.""I don't like this solution so much because it's very technical and compared to Commvault and Veeam, it's not so user-friendly. The interface needs improvement.""Many of our users complain about the GUI. You still need to rely on the command line interface. Because it originated as a Unix system, Data Protector is still a command line-driven solution, which makes it seem rather dated compared to systems that are built around a GUI from day one. It doesn't affect the functionality, but some people don't find it user-friendly.""Micro Focus are improving Data Protector with every new version and since we began undergoing training with the latest version we have not faced any real challenges yet. However, their support does need to be improved, in my opinion. In certain critical cases that we've had, they did not provide a satisfactory level of support."

  • "The licensing structure provides cost savings to business."
  • "It is fast, reliable, and its licensing policy is great."
  • "Avoid using many LTO drives; when using fewer drives, the price will be extremely good."
  • "In Data Protector, if you need extra features, you need to buy the agents for these features. Some of the features are Terabytes, some of them are agents. There's some complexity in the pricing and licensing."
  • "The licensing cost was not annual. We didn't pay any license. We paid when we deployed and we didn't pay for anything after that. There were no additional fees after the initial payment."
