Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I like the documentation. It's a central platform, and there are many things that I can do with it. I'm very pleased about it.""The most valuable feature of the solution stems from its document-controlling feature. In Atlassian Confluence, controlled documents cannot be edited by anyone else.""A simple tool for developers to write and record team decisions explaining the product that they are creating.""There is a good library of templates for a wide range of needs.""The solution offers a lot of freedom when drafting directly online.""The most beneficial aspect is real-time collaboration, allowing multiple users to work on the same documents simultaneously.""The solution helped us to see where we were going wrong and where we were doing good, and that helped us to make proper decisions""As for valuable features, the team management features help us to share information very easily."

More Atlassian Confluence Pros →

"The user interface and the way we can share and search information are the most valuable. It is very easy to use.""Its most valuable features are the storyline and communities.""The product's initial setup phase was straightforward.""The most valuable feature of Yammer is its interface.""The posting features are valuable.""I find it quite simple and intuitive. It's similar to using a more user-friendly interface for SharePoint. It integrates seamlessly with the browser, so you hardly notice you're using it.""The design of the solution is its most valuable feature.""Valuable features include the integration with Microsoft Office and the fact that it is in the cloud. Also, it's quite easy to use."

Cons
"The flexibility and simplicity of this solution could be improved. We would also like the ability to add plugins.""The standard table capability is substandard and virtually unusable.""Some aspects of the drawing perspective could be improved. When we upgrade a design and make technical architecture drawings to publish, we still use Visio first and then copy and paste it. If this feature were available on Confluence, it would be a useful tool.""Atlassian Confluence is not really a community-friendly solution.""Atlassian should rethink its withdrawal of the self-hosted version of the product. They only offer cloud-based service or the "datacenter-edition", which is quite expensive for small companies and private users.""The search function is not great.""Atlassian Confluence could improve how information is shared outside our company. We had some negative experiences with the rights we have with our information when sharing it within Atlassian Confluence and with other teams outside the company. It's due to the limitations on the rights we have on the export capabilities. We don't have sufficient rights to do so.""The user interface could be improved."

More Atlassian Confluence Cons →

"We tried to integrate into SharePoint, but it was not really efficient.""It looks slightly less clean on Chrome compared to Microsoft Edge, but it's a minor difference. There is room for improvement in user experience, like positions of elements.""Sometimes, we lose access to the solution for unknown reasons.""Although Microsoft is working on it, having a centralized network instead of creating multiple networks based on a domain would help businesses with multiple companies or child companies.""I faced some issues with Yammer's mobile app when I shifted from Android to iPhone, and it got a little bit tricky to use it on an iPhone, which took away some of my time.""The interface is clunky and could be improved.""The product seems to just add to the complexity of using existing tools.""The way you want to control the communication could be an issue. It depends on what kind of company you are. We are a public company, and there are some regulations that we need to comply with. Its ease of use can be an issue for a company because anybody can subscribe and use it. There are many competitors that are overlapping. Since Microsoft bought Yammer, it tends to be in the shadow. It is not put in the front from the service perspective."

There are several discussions on SharePoint’s social strategy going on at the moment. I had some great discussions with my MVP mate Adis during Summit last week. Since #SPC12 almost every SharePoint addicted developer, it-pro, power user has reviewed Yammer. If you don’t know what Yammer is, here a short introduction. Yammer is an enterprise social network, which allows you and your coworkers to communicate in a modern way as on Facebook. The huge difference between Facebook and Yammer is, Yammer is private. That means only people from your organization or the people you’ve invited to join your network can see and take part of the conversation which is going on in your Yammer network. With the common understanding of Yammer, you should be able to follow up the ongoing discussions. Adis wrote a great post, summarizing his thoughts on SharePoint and Yammer integration and the upcoming social future. I totally agree with Adis, there are a lot of things missing at the moment. But here my thoughts on Yammer vs. SPSocial Leak of integration In my eyes there is still too much missing, of course you can integrate yammer into your SharePoint, but key features are missing such as SSO, seamless look ‘n feel integration. Prebuild views on Yammer depending on the current SharePoint context or the mobile story. Microsoft shipped mobile Apps for SharePoint 2013 OnDemand and OnPrem. AFAIK are these apps currently available in preview, but each of them is based on SPSocial. SharePoint… Read more →

Top Answer:Atlassian Confluence is not really a community-friendly solution. If you have a company, you'll have a license for each person, but it does not have such features as commenters. For example, Jira… more »
