We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"One of the standout advantages is the fine-grained control it offers in terms of permissions and privileges.""AWS Control Tower helps companies save costs.""It provides a central point for account management, access control, and compliance monitoring.""AWS Control Tower helps to save a lot of work and manage multiple accounts.""The solution's initial setup was easy for me.""It is incredibly user-friendly and functions seamlessly.""Compliance is the most valuable feature.""It provides centralized solutions for all AWS accounts in one place, customized to meet the organization's specific needs."

"You can use a single API to get things done, rather than multiple APIs on multiple modules.""It has become easy to deploy new devices with no or minimal hardware changes. Now, a user can be ready to use a firewall within a few minutes, as compared to the traditional physical model which involved purchase, shipping, hardware configuration, cabling, power, etc.""The API with CloudStack made integration into various external facing web applications simple enough.""The product gives us the ability to orchestrate large virtual environments and is flexible enough to allow us to configure it for what we need. We value the flexibility of the networking feature set as well as the ability to build virtual private clouds.""CloudStack is simple to stand up and get off the ground in a hurry. Its centralized design allows for easier troubleshooting when compared to OpenStack. Out of the box, it’s very well suited for white labeling and IaaS.""The structuring of the components and isolated environments helped us when using parts of the framework at different levels of product development.""Key features include stability, centralized management design that scales well, and transparent interoperability with different hypervisors and manufacturers..""My company could implement a lot of customizations and integration with load balancers and DNS. When we started using CloudStack, we didn't have that integration, so we developed that. We could fix anything missing in the solution."

Cons
"The process of closing an AWS account using Control Tower needs improvements to simplify it, especially when managing multiple accounts.""There should be more automation security tools in the Control Tower.""By making APIs and organizational units more centralized, it would be simpler to pinpoint the source of issues in case of a breach and would ultimately benefit everyone involved.""The sole drawback is its restriction to enable only one Control Tower.""It could be improved by having a more intuitive graphical interface. It could also include other coding languages like PowerShell and Python, as it would be beneficial for DevOps recommendations.""The initial setup is complex.""The tool's setup is very technical. Its pricing can be cheaper.""The integration with other AWS functions has room for improvement."

More AWS Control Tower Cons →

"The main reason why we started looking for another solution: backups, replication, HA, and dependency on secondary storage. CS is quite sensitive for infrastructure, and any kind of network disruption between CS and secondary storage leads to VM hanging.""The Windows hosts do not get their hostnames from cloud-init.""We did encounter issues with stability, and the main issue was secondary storage. When it is not available, XenServers and hypervisors are affected. And CS doesn’t do anything to reboot, or fix. Come to think of it, maybe it shouldn’t, considering their approach – CS just orchestrates everything else on the hypervisor and storage level.""From time to time there is a bug in calculating limits of resources for customer domain/account. Maybe it’s a problem with 4.9.2.""I think that container technology in CloudStack is an area that needs to be improved.""The area of Apache CloudStack that could stand the most improvement is the functionality/features around the virtual routers. They can be somewhat cumbersome to deal with at times and are the least stable piece of the product.""The numerous, multi-layered drill-down menus make it difficult to find one simple knob to turn.""A technology upgrade is one item which could be improved upon a lot."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The solution is free."
  • "On a scale of one to ten, where one is a low price and ten is a high price, I rate the pricing an eight."
  • "The product's affordability depends on the value it brings to specific organizations."
  • "It is expensive but it is an investment in my opinion."
  • "AWS Control Tower is not really that expensive."
  • "The pricing is efficient, not overly expensive but also not very cheap."
  • "The cost is reasonable, but there are opportunities for improvement in terms of pricing for larger enterprises."
  • "It operates on a pay-as-you-go model, meaning we are charged only for the services we actively use within it."

  • "The Apache CloudStack is open source, so you do not have licenses to purchase."
  • "Give an effort to planning. If possible, contract a specialized consultant company for the initial setup and knowledge transfer."
  • "As far as I know, CS is still free of charge. If you want to pay some money, Citrix Cloud Platform is based on CS, I think. As for hypervisors – everything as usual, you need to pay for VMware and vCenter. As for XenServer, recently they changed the free feature list, so you may need to pay some money to get useful features like XenMotion."
  • "There is no license, so the product is free unless you are buying professional technical support services."
  • "CloudStack is an open source solution, so you don't need to pay anything for it. When our company develops something specially for CloudStack, it is donated to the Apache Software Foundation and provided to anyone that wants to use it."
  • "The solution is open-source and free."
  • "It is a 100% open-source solution needing just an Apache license. Also, there are no hidden fees to be paid."
  • "CloudStack is an open-source product."
