Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable feature is ease of use.""AWS handles everything on the backend requiring minimal legwork from our team. We only require a dedicated database administrator while depending on Amazon for RDS.""The support is very good. I would rate the technical support as a nine out of ten.""We like the fact that it's got such great redundancy.""I like the manageability. Activate Connect makes it easier to assign information and to manage the resources in the network.""Two-step authentication is very useful and important.""AWS has eliminated the downtime we waste when our on-premises resources go down.""We can provide specific access to people based on what they need from our accounts."

"The Single Sign-On capabilities are endless and we haven't found a single app so far that couldn't be set up for SSO.""Now we can easily control who has access to which client or client application.""You don't need to be a specialist in Identity and Access Management solutions to understand the software and configure it.""The most valuable feature is the option to use SSO from different sources such as Microsoft AD, ADFS, Azure AD, SAML, form-based, etc."

Cons
"Our only complaint is that you cannot integrate your Exchange server. Or, if you are planning to install an Exchange server on your Amazon EC2 instance, then you need to configure Active Directory on EC2 instance. We would like for this limitation to be lifted.""The solution lacks certain features.""Some of the security protocols are difficult to understand.""Can be improved by including on-premises access for services through Identity Access Management.""The group policy can be improved.""I would like to see better integration with other business solutions.""AWS could improve the number of regions. Azure has passed them. The ned more consistency, as far as the Northeast is concerned.""To get CloudWatch to monitor your memory and storage, you have to do some configuration within your server, which sometimes results in errors."

"Integration with other Tools4ever applications such as SSRPM and IAM would be nice.""I would like to have the built-in provisioning module improved.""Sometimes it generates a username that is not unique, but at the time of this writing, it is not possible to generate a new one that is unique.""When something needs to be changed with the sign-on policies, we have to apply this manually to every client environment that we have."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The pricing is reasonable."
  • "The pricing depends because with AWS there are two types of directory objects: 30,000 and 500,000. It varies. AWS provides the pricing calculators so we can get an estimate from there as per the company requirement of how many users and objects that we need to create. So we can go to that portal, put in the data, and get the quotation. There are no extra licensing fees. It's all included."
  • "AWS' pricing is fair, and costs can be cut if you look carefully at when you're using it."
  • "We pay an annual subscription fee."

    Overview

AWS Directory Service lets you run Microsoft Active Directory (AD) as a managed service. AWS Directory Service for Microsoft Active Directory, also referred to as AWS Managed Microsoft AD, is powered by Windows Server 2012 R2. When you select and launch this directory type, it is created as a highly available pair of domain controllers connected to your virtual private cloud (VPC). The domain controllers run in different Availability Zones in a region of your choice. Host monitoring and recovery, data replication, snapshots, and software updates are automatically configured and managed for you.

HelloID makes accessing applications easy by seamlessly integrating into an organization's portal where users already go for other information. It can also be offered through a familiar URL if a portal interface is not desired. By integrating HelloID into an existing portal, organizations make it simple for users to quickly find and access all the applications they need from a single dashboard. Once logged into the portal, the user sees an overview of the available cloud applications (e.g. Google Apps, Salesforce, Office 365, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.) and simply clicks on that application's icon.
