Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I have found that the backups are usually very successful.""We can configure the notifications themselves so that the right people get the notifications. This is very helpful. It allows key stakeholders to know if backups have happened and to remind each other to check the backups if something is not right.""The most valuable features of BackupAssist are ease of use, configure is simple, and more importantly, ease of recovery. If you needed to do a complete system recovery or another recovery it is straightforward.""I get my reports. It is generally very reliable. Unless there is a major change, it doesn't stop backing up. I've got my server room set up with everything connected to the same power, and I never have power issues or failures of backups because a sub-site has gone off."

"The most valuable feature is the speed of backup, which is very good compared to other solutions.""We perform backup drills to test the functionality, and we don't have any problems.""The superior support from Barracuda in setting up, using, and helping with issues for the product.""The scalability of the product is fine.""Its interface is intuitive, and it is easy to use when I am restoring files. Barracuda does a really excellent job at compression, which makes it very efficient. Eight years later, I am only halfway through to the capacity, which is very good.""The product is easy to install and use while doing what it is expected to do.""The most valuable features are the deduplication that analyzes data to identify duplicate patterns and granular restore.""It is very stable, and I'm very happy with this solution."

Cons
"In the future I would like to see more support for Linux.""It stopped doing my backups after I did the last update on it.""Many solutions become stagnant over time. However, BackupAssist has been consistent in updates but they must continue to innovate and improve to avoid stagnation.""The solution needs a dashboard or some form of central control from which you can manage all backups.""Many solutions become stagnant over time. However, BackupAssist has been consistent in updates but they must continue to innovate and improve to avoid stagnation."

More BackupAssist Cons →

"The backup feature could be a bit simpler to utilize. They should make the process of backing up individual files simpler.""Barracuda works great for smaller network environments, which are not that complex. It is hardware-based with a Linux core, which you don't have access to, and a lot of stuff happens on the back-end. Even from a troubleshooting perspective, it is a bit challenging.""Their technical support is not very good. You never know what they are doing and what is the issue. Customers need to know what is happening. This is our main concern and the only thing that can be improved in this solution. I would like to have more visibility about what is going on when something happens. I need to know what was done to solve the issue.""I am working in some of the more rural areas of Sweden, and some of the customers here are a little bit wary of cloud technology at the moment. It is not like in Gothenburg or Stockholm, where people rely on it so much more. In the rural areas, companies are saying that we do need to use the cloud, and they are being very wary about their data, especially with GDPR and all that kind of stuff. Having more control and having an option for backing up locally, even if you don't want to use it, would be something very good. The cloud backup is brilliant, but there should be an option to take that cloud backup and save it locally as well. If you lose connection to the internet or you lose access to your data in the cloud, having a backup copy of the latest data on your server is helpful. You need to be able to get access to your customers' files, especially with GDPR, where you need to know where your customers' details are. If they're in the cloud and you've lost access to them, then you'll go into those GDPR regulations. This is somewhere where both Barracuda and Veeam haven't gone as far. As far as I have understood, with Veeam, you can back up your local servers to the cloud but not vice versa. I haven't worked on it much.""Setting up Barracuda Backup is straightforward.""I would like to see the automatic backup of critical applications to the cloud.""When we manage the box physically, we don't have as much control as we do when we manage from the cloud. The best management is from the cloud.""I would like to see the Live Boot feature extended to Hyper-V machines, in addition to VMware machines."

Pricing and Cost Advice

  • "The product pricing here in Zimbabwe is good, I cannot complain."
  • "The cost of the solution is reasonable and there are add-on options that can be purchased. I have used other solutions that are a lot more expensive that are not as good. The ability to get support is very simple and very reasonable from a cost standpoint."
  • "It's on a yearly basis, but I'm not the one who does the licensing on that. I don't have any figures, but it's on a yearly basis, and I believe it's reasonable."
  • More BackupAssist Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "It allows us a low cost backup solution for hardware-based, VMware, and Hyper-V systems all from a single platform."
  • "Low, fixed cost with great savings."
  • "You don't need to buy an extra license or agent. With one box, you have licenses for any amount of devices that you want to backed up for whatever is backed up."
  • "You have two options, which we have. We pay for it bi-monthly. Then, you can purchase the project hours and support annually."
  • "What I like best about Barracuda Backup is the licensing model."
  • "The price of the five-year contract was approximately three million Rupees ($42,000 USD)."
  • "The licensing is charged yearly. It's my understanding that the cost of the solution is somewhere around $7,000 every two years."
  • "All the storage is included in Barracuda, so you're just paying for the package. I think with Veeam, you pay for the package, and you pay for the storage."
