Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Overall, the pricing of the solution is very good. The product offers good value.""The wireless control is helpful.""The usage in general is pretty good.""Fortinet FortiGate has many valuable features, such as IDS, and intrusion detection. It has security features that are in part with the technologies that are available in the market.""The initial setup of Fortinet FortiGate was straightforward.""This is an easy solution to deploy.""We are a visual effects company, and there have been a number of high profile security issues in our industry. This has brought us to a higher standard of security, which our clients are very keen on these days.""FortiGate improved our security. It's one of the best hardware firewalls."

"The interface is very user-friendly and it is quite easy to use.""TINA (Transport Independent Network Architecture) VPN features - Allows automatic VPN configuration with little or no input from the tech. Drag and drop lines between Barracuda units and the VPN is built automatically.""It provides a lot of functionality adhering to the current trends.""Add-on features such as Virus Scanning, ATP, and web filtering add another level of protection and block malware before it gets to the end user.""Most people are using enterprise applications remotely, and there is no license for SSL VPN, or in other words point-to-site. There is no limit on that. On other devices there is a specific limit and you have to pay per use for SSL VPN.""Ability to manage multiple firewalls.""Its central management, especially when it comes to distributed environments, is great. I can generate and save a setting and then apply that setting across the network with just one click.""It is a very stable solution."

Cons
"FortiLink is the interface on the firewall that allows you to extend switch management across all of your switches in the network. The problem with it is that you can't use multiple interfaces unless you set them up in a lag. Only then you can run them. So, it forces you to use a core type of switch to propagate that management out to the rest of the switches, and then it is running the case at 200. It leaves you with 18 ports on the firewall because it is also a layer-three router that could also be used as a switch, but as soon as you do that, you can't really use them. They could do a little bit more clean up in the way the stacking interface works. Some use cases and the documentation on the FortiLink checking interface are a little outdated. I can find stuff on version 5 or more, but it is hard to find information on some of the newer firmware. The biggest thing I would like to see is some improvement in the switch management feature. I would like to be able to relegate some of the ports, which are on the firewall itself, to act as a switch to take advantage of those ports. Some of these firewalls have clarity ports on them. If I can use those, it would mean that I need to buy two less switches, which saves time. I get why they don't, but I would still like to see it because it would save a little bit of space in the server rack.""I would suggest that Fortinet add sandboxing to their solution.""Lacks training for new features.""The support we receive when we need to upgrade is not satisfactory and has room for improvement.""The pricing could be a bit better, especially when you consider how they have the most basic offering priced.""Fortinet Fortigate could benefit by simplifying some of their processes.""The pricing could always be better.""Some of the features in the graphical user interface do not work, which requires that we used the command-line-interface."

More Fortinet FortiGate Cons →

"It's a little bit complex in terms of handling. If you implement a change, there is a specific point where you have to commit it. It's not like you just push a button and it's always committed. If you don't know to check whether your commit command has been executed or not... that is something Barracuda needs to work on.""Its interface could be better.""Technical support used to be at a very high level but it is now a bit less so.""The interface should be more user-friendly and it should be easier to configure.""The price is a bit higher than other vendors.""The usability for the administrator's experience needs improvement. My system administrator has some questions about its overall connectivity and flexibility.""Command line could be more user friendly.""Sometimes we have a need for detailed reports. Barracuda NG Firewall does not have a reports module and uses a satellite application."

More Barracuda CloudGen Firewall Cons →

"Pricing is sometimes challenging, although it brings a lot of features.""The reporting from the file or reporting from mobile access needs improvement. The solution, in general, could use better reporting tools.""It should have excellent integration with the other security tools.""Every time we made a change, the policy took about three minutes to apply, and obviously, when there were emergency changes or changes that we needed that were escalated, they were not modified very, very quickly."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Fortinet has one or two license types, and the VPN numbers are only limited by the hardware chassis make."
  • "These boxes are not that expensive compared to what they can do, their functionality, and the reporting you receive. Fortinet licensing is straightforward and less confusing compared to Cisco."
  • "Go for long term pricing negotiated at the time of purchase."
  • "Work through partners for the best pricing."
  • "The value is the capability of having multiple services with one unique license, not having the limitation per user licensing schema, like other vendors."
  • "Easy to understand licensing requirements."
  • "We saved a bundle by not needing all the past appliances from an NGFW."
  • "The cost is too high... They have to focus on more features with less cost for the customer. If you see the market, where it's going, there are a lot of players offering more features for less cost."

  • "It is a product with a very transparent model of licensing. In the sense of hidden expenses, they do not exist with this model. "
  • "We evaluated a lot of different options. We concluded that Barracuda NG Firewall provided the most features for an exemplary price. "
  • "My advice is to try and evaluate it (Barracuda offers a trial period of one month)."
  • "Pricing is good. Licensing is pretty much automatic if using Control Center."
  • "Pricing and licensing are fine. It's worth the value because every four years, if I buy any other product, I have to replace my hardware. But with Barracuda I get a free hardware upgrade. Today I'm using Xbox. After four years I can take another Xbox or a Ybox."
  • "It would be nice if the pricing and licensing offered for less."
  • "Purchasing through AWS Marketplace was good. We did it because it was easy."
  • "In general, it tends to be cheaper than most solutions."
