We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Barracuda is very prompt at blocking any new spam which comes out.
The product is foolproof. It has done everything that we have needed with the amount of email that we receive, and it handles it quite well.
We enjoy the reduction in terms of labor.
Inbound and outbound traffic analysis, rule creation wizard, and the GUI portal are among the key features.
Add-on features such as Virus Scanning, ATP, and web filtering add another level of protection and block malware before it gets to the end user.
Single device, multiple functions - I do not need to purchase a web application firewall, a proxy server, a VPN device and so many others because these are all built in to this one device.
TINA (Transport Independent Network Architecture) VPN features - Allows automatic VPN configuration with little or no input from the tech. Drag and drop lines between Barracuda units and the VPN is built automatically.
Enables us to define user application-level access, so our customers can work anytime from anywhere.
Its ability to discover attacks is a valuable feature. All of the other features that have to do with security are good.
The greatest benefit for the organization is the confidence that we are secured.
This solution has good security, and it's a good product. You can trust Cisco, and there's support as well, which is really good.
Its VPN and ASN features are very stable.
The setup was straightforward. I was happy with the configuration and deployment of the solution, as it was quick.
It provides security for our company and users.
It protects our network.
The stability of the product is good.
To start working with spam, it takes a while because the product has to see that multiple emails are coming in with all the spam. If it could reduce that amount of time, then we would reduce the amount of users who are receiving spam.
The usability for the administrator's experience needs improvement. My system administrator has some questions about its overall connectivity and flexibility.
A rule for email announcements, when configured hits occur, would be a great improvement for a more efficient experience.
Can be underpowered if you choose to use all available add-on features. Just be careful when sizing your unit. Make sure you take into account what features you will be turning on, and work with your sales rep to get the model that can handle that load.
It's a little bit complex in terms of handling. If you implement a change, there is a specific point where you have to commit it. It's not like you just push a button and it's always committed. If you don't know to check whether your commit command has been executed or not... that is something Barracuda needs to work on.
When you do any commit, it locks your next access. If you are making a change to the device, from the security standpoint it's fine, but from the admin side it's not good. When you make changes, after each and every one it becomes locked.
When you login from some sources, there is no feature in this box which can log you out after a certain timeout.
Sometimes we have a need for detailed reports. Barracuda NG Firewall does not have a reports module and uses a satellite application.
Some of the features, like the stability, need to be improved.
There may have been one or two incidences of malicious threats.
The phishing emails could be improved.
In terms of next-generation capabilities, Cisco is a little behind, and it is way behind the market leaders.
The initial setup was complex.
The pricing is a bit high.
Migration with other appliances is not easy. It has to be done manually, and this takes a long time.
It is not easy to configure.
Pricing and Cost Advice
It would be nice if the pricing and licensing offered for less.
Purchasing through AWS Marketplace was good. We did it because it was easy.
Pricing is good. Licensing is pretty much automatic if using Control Center.
Pricing and licensing are fine. It's worth the value because every four years, if I buy any other product, I have to replace my hardware. But with Barracuda I get a free hardware upgrade. Today I'm using Xbox. After four years I can take another Xbox or a Ybox.
It is a product with a very transparent model of licensing. In the sense of hidden expenses, they do not exist with this model.
We evaluated a lot of different options. We concluded that Barracuda NG Firewall provided the most features for an exemplary price.
My advice is to try and evaluate it (Barracuda offers a trial period of one month).
Pricing is high, but it is essentially a corporate decision.
The cost is a bit high compared to other solutions in the market.
Cisco recently has become very expensive.
The cost is a bit higher than other competitive solutions on the market.
It is considered on the "high end" of the spectrum.
The cost of keeping the licensing up on the ASA is very expensive. It has a lot of positives, but the cost of going with it is really starting to be a major negative right now.
Commercial leasing is the best option.
ASA pricing seems high compared to other firewalls, such as the Sophos XG models.
