We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:
"At one point, there was a zero-day attack. The Cisco appliance detected it and stopped it, helping us out. We avoided the attack and potential damage."
"Because we scan products, and there is a lot of critical data, security is very important in these cases."
"It sends us reports, where we can see if there have been attacks, e.g. DDoS. If so, we can switch to a clean IP."
"It integrates with Active Directory and we can limit specific users to using specific applications."
"I can customize the configuration and policies."
"It blocks bulk marketing messages, graymail, spam, and provides advanced malware protection."
"The most valuable features are protection against ransomware and spam."
"The user interface was quite friendly, it was quite easy to use, unlike some other Cisco products. Anybody could use it. You don't have to be familiar with IT to be able to handle navigating it."
"With the cloud service, one of the nice things about Barracuda is the quarantine service. It gives the ability for our users to go in and check what has been quarantined, and then connect with our IT staff to release anything that should be fine so that we can test it before we release."
"Before this solution, we didn't have any separate feature for protecting our emails. We used to only have a firewall but now we have email security. It has a graphical interface and we can see the log every time. We can see that the performance is fine."
"This appliance has helped in that we now eliminate the thousands of scams, spam, and malware emails that are destined for our users."
"This solution has helped to significantly reduce the amount of junk email that we receive."
"It is an excellent, intelligent solution that provides maximum security from email attacks."
"The performance is good."
"The security protection is the best and it's GUI is user-friendly."
"The link protection and anti-phishing features are great."
"The ability to see east-west traffic is its most valuable feature. Traditionally, email defense focuses on north-south, inbound-outbound, egress-ingress traffic. With Cisco Cloud Mailbox Defense, it's able to quickly identify, track, tag, and categorize emails that are internal. That can typically give us visibility into if there's an internal compromised account (for example). Someone can then use that internal compromised account to email additional accounts with either malicious software or links, but internal within that Office tenant. Effectively, that email message never leaves the tenant. Any of the mail gateways really do not have any method or way of seeing this traffic since it's not leaving the environment."
"On ease of use, it rates very high. It's something that I was able to get into without really looking at any documentation. I wanted to see what it felt like before I started looking at any documentation on how to use it, and it was very easy to use. It works very smoothly. The user experience is very intuitive. They did an amazing job on that."
"I would like them to add some clustering or high availability features."
"The initial setup was complex because I have two sites with physical clusters."
"The hardware is not up to the mark. Two to three times a year we have complete downtime."
"The graphical user interface is not user-friendly like other vendors. I find it very difficult at times to find some options on the UI."
"I would like to see sandboxing for email, where suspicious emails received by the system are analyzed through online services."
"The user interface needs some improvement to become more user-friendly. The graphics could be better. It's designed more for a technical user rather than a business user."
"We didn't get any malware, but a few phishing emails, maybe one or two, slipped in."
"One of the things that Cisco could improve on with IronPort is the support. Cisco doesn't really have enough engineers who have full, hands-on knowledge of IronPort. Knowledge of it is not something you can find easily compared to other security appliances."
"There's a bit of configuration work that's needed with the DNS service provider, but other than that, everything else should be very smooth."
"We had an incident where we didn't want to receive any emails or spam from a certain site and email address. We selected the mail ID, and we send it to Barracuda for analysis to see if it's spam or something like that. As of now, we haven't gotten any update or notification as to what happened with it."
"Two improvements that are needed include an enhancement in the proxy feature, as well as the ability to more fully automate patches and updates."
"The reports are standard, and it would be nice to be able to customize them."
"The technical support is not available globally 24/7 and this is the biggest problem with the product."
"The reporting can be improved."
"We would like to have a local support center in India so that they are operating in the same time zone and speak the same language."
"False positives have given us issues."
"There is still room for improvement in terms of integrations with other Cisco tools and non-Cisco tools. There is also some room for improvement needed in terms of the reporting."
"The search area has room for improvement. When you go to the next page, it remains at the bottom of the current page that you're on. Also, under the reports section, it allows you to see any "convictions," but if you want to search for those convictions you have to remember when they all came in and go back and edit the search accordingly. You cannot click on the list of convictions to actually see if you had a spike at a certain time."
Pricing and Cost Advice
"We do annual licensing for ESA and SMA together, and possibly SmartNet support. Packaged together, the cost is just under $38,000."
"In addition to the standard licensing, there is a cost for SMARTnet as well."
"Pricing depends on your environment and which model you want to buy."
"Licensing costs depend on how many users there are. It could range between $5 and $7 per month, per user."
"The license was not per user, the license model was per feature. You could choose anti-virus, anti-spam, etc. It was feature-based and charged yearly."
"There were no other costs in addition to the standard licensing fees."
"We were using Proofpoint and then we switched to Cisco... reportability was one of the main reasons we switched, but the biggest one was cost. If you can get an equivalent functionality for a better price it's wise to do so. That's what our primary decision came down to: We could get equivalent functionality at a lower price point."
"It is not that costly. We pay for the solution through a contractor and pay an annual fee."
"For overall value and cost, Barracuda came in as most appropriate, price as well as services provided. In terms of price, it's average . It's not the most expensive, it's not the least expensive but it works well."
"The price of this solution is very high, but it's working fine."
"Our licensing fees are approximately $4,000 per year, and this includes updates for the antivirus and spam signatures."
"As far as advanced email security systems, this product is mid-range on the pricing scale."
"The pricing for the product is fine."
