We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I've used other discovery tools, but I found BMC Helix Discovery to be more UI-friendly, and that's the most valuable feature of the solution.""It is agentless, which means you don't have to install anything on all the different pieces of hardware that you are looking to discover.""The most valuable feature of the solution is its application dependency mapping.""The solution is definitely useful.""It is a scalable solution.""The most valuable feature of the solution stems from the fact that it is easy to install and deploy.""Start anywhere application modelling brings a fantastic opportunity for users to see what is where.""BMC provides great support. As managed service support, they are gold."

"Remote access is most valuable.""If you stick to the out-of-the-box solution, it's an easy setup.""I think the technical support is pretty good. They can be a little bit slow sometimes, but overall I think they're good.""ServiceNow is a very powerful tool that can perform a lot of different functions.""It's actually easy to understand.""Creating a ticket is much simpler in this tool. That is one big advantage. Also, the simplicity and ease of use are much better. I've used HPSM and it is very complex in comparison to ServiceNow.""Straightforward tool.""ServiceNow offers a range of ITSM, IT incident management, and PRCPs."

Cons
"I would like to see the ability to scan some of the newer cloud platforms. I know that BMC has them on the roadmap, and they are coming soon, but they can't come fast enough. Being able to scan more of GCloud, Alibaba Cloud, or whatever the public clouds that our customers are buying, we need to make sure that Discovery can find them as well.""The solution is definitely useful.""There isn't much that could be improved. The solution is pretty thorough, very easy to implement, and very easy to operate.""The license model could be more flexible and cheaper pricing.""The support from BMC Helix Discovery can improve, it takes a long time before we receive any feedback. It can take days to months sometimes.""There is still room for improvement in terms of stability.""The improvement which we require is to delete the Internet service. Till some of the features are coming, like, internally side. If you are taking one server to model, there are a lot of usages like three structures per diagram is coming, and we have to do the man lot of manual work. Instead of that, whatever our requirement, we should be able to provide the servers and get the structure. So this is what we want to implement with such data.""We would like updates more often."

More BMC Helix Discovery Cons →

"All the screens are similar. It's the same platform for everything and you need to familiarize yourself with it. In the past, you used to have one screen per application. Now, you have everything integrated into one. Everybody will manage the same screen and they need to navigate into the same screen as the Internet Explorer with a toolbar with the categories and look for the things you want to see or the models you want to use.""I find ServiceNow to be a little bit clunky. If I need to report an issue they have a number of different options. I can report an issue, I can ask a question, I can make a request and it has varying levels of importance or levels of attention required. I find that what's required to submit is not always clear.""Change Management is the area I have found that this tool can be improved because there are so many fields which are missing, such as urgency of the customer request and how the priority is defined. These are some of the areas in which I found that BMC Remedy is much better than ServiceNow.""Their cloud management is also not that great compared to other products.""The Express edition does not allow the option for scripting.""It's not very secure, it's web-based, and I prefer Remedy. Both the security and the web interface could be improved.""The interface is not user-friendly.""It should enhance its offerings by providing the chance to obtain course certifications at an affordable fee."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "BMC is available for a reasonable price compared to ServiceNow — it's half the price."
  • "The price was fair compared to competitors. BMC is very affordable. There are optional consulting services to assist with implementation."
  • "We are on a three-year agreement with BMC Helix Discovery to use the solution. There are not any additional fees other than the standard license."
  • "You need a license to use BMC Helix Discovery. The license is paid yearly, though I have no idea how much it costs."
  • "The licenses are very complex and quite costly."
  • "The solution offers yearly licenses."
  • "The licensing fee is very low."
  • "We have a perpetual license for the solution."

  • "The first impact for the customer is that it is expensive, but do not forget that it is a solution that includes infrastructure; a single cost, easy to justify."
  • "It has a higher cost compared to local/regional solutions."
  • "We know that ServiceNow is not cheap, it's more expensive than other solutions. But we are trying to increase our ability to handle tickets so that the cost per ticket is less."
  • "It's sold as a less expensive solution, but it has to be highly modified. That's where you get into the cost."
  • "ServiceNow pricing is an art, not a science. The deal depends on how commercially savvy you are, which does make it something that is quite difficult to get right. It is most definitely an opportunity area for ServiceNow to improve and have more visibility around pricing of the different products within the platform."
  • "ServiceNow is a leader and its pricing is quite good, quite competitive... Sometimes some plugins are not priced reasonably but, generally, the platform itself, its modules, are priced reasonably."
  • "Isn't pricing always too much? We really do chafe at the ITIL licensing. ITOM is also pretty expensive."
  • "Initially, the licensing model ServiceNow came up with was very good. But now, from a licensing perspective, they are changing their model day by day. It is becoming a bit expensive for customers."
