Quotes From Members Comparing BMC TrueSight Operations Management vs eG Enterprise

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
It provides common administration, and a Single Sign-On Platform with RBAC, which eases the cross launch between multiple toolsThe tailoring of the knowledge modules has been particularly useful as I can streamline the agents to only report on critical events. It is very helpful to be able to apply rule-based routing to alerts.TSOM's ability to consolidate alerts into a single location and provide filtering of alerts is great. It has provided us with a single location to host all events to be viewed/monitored by our NOC. This has greatly helped them to streamline their processes. It allows our operations team to have one single application to reference when investigating issues in our environment.Signature baselines, which have allowed us to fine tune many of our events and significantly reduce the number of events generated. The ability to pull hosts together to show what processes are running, so it can be used for change management.

It gives good insight into inside of what's going on with Exchange. The GUI is nicer than all the other graphical interfaces out there. Its ability to monitor failures and to restart a Windows service when it fails. The ability to see what the end user response is, so I can get a better understanding of what the end user is seeing when they connect to the Citrix servers.Enormous capability to monitor Citrix environments. The most important feature is the ability to design, then implement monitoring tests on the fly as we are adapting to different situations. The auto-configuration or auto-Thresholding is very important because it saves a phenomenal amount of labor and setup costs and time.EG monitors all infrastructure elements (all OS, all database, storage, network, and web server) from a single console.

Cons
The knowledge modules could be more lightweight in size. At present, the installation packages can be quite large.BMC's solutions for cloud monitoring (monitoring of AWS and Azure resources) are very poor in stability and customization.BMC's online documentation is often incorrect or incomplete.I would really like to see out-of-the-box support for monitoring uninterruptible power supplies.More modules for less popular applications and better documentation.I think the ease of deployment needs to be looked at. It would be great if the deployment was faster and easier. The sizing (which is difficult), the maintenance of it and the upgrade paths. This is a difficult area which is not easy to cover, as every client has a different approach of implementing the product.

Dashboards are difficult to create, and not so useful.Back-end configuration is not easy to implement. The interface could be improved as it is not real intuitive. It is not user-friendly.Their dashboards could use some improvement. The ability to customize them a bit more.Needs to improve the networking monitor capabilities.I can understand why they designed the user interface (UI) the way they did, but sometimes in the management of the eG Manager, it can be a bit clunky.would like to see improvements in the alarm display console. The UI looks a little dated and could do with a refresh.

Pricing and Cost Advice
The solutions are not the cheapest but are robust and stable. License model is rather complex and BMC do often change the model.Use conservative figures. In terms of hardware, monitored servers and also effort. The product is not cheap. But as with other products, you get what you pay for.

They gave us a good price, when they were found out we were looking at other products because their price was very high. We were looking at another solution, then we came back to them was because they brought the price down. We selected them for three years. It is not expensive. They are aligned with other enterprise solutions. It'd be nice if the price was lower. That would be an improvement. If using eG for virtual desktops, carefully calculate whether per named user, per concurrent user, or per serverYou may get some monitoring products with certain licensing you may own. Some of these can take ages to configure and setup, along with needing a license to drive the software.
