Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"I like the ease of use.""The application is very light in terms of uploading and downloading files.""The system's performance is impressive, and file sharing is notably straightforward.""You can upload your bin, upload your files quickly, and download your files quickly. It provides a lot of other alternatives.""The solution is used for data storage and any kind of visualization.""File sharing with collaborators not on the same domain with offline access from multiple devices: I work on many projects that are multi-organizational, such as with customers, suppliers, or acquisitions.""The most valuable feature of Box is security.""The interface is very good."

"Simplicity to roll out, features available, customization options.""WebReports has a lot of capabilities that offer good opportunities to customize the applications the way we want to.""It's a very good solution.""We can configure the solution with any industry's products per customer requirements.""Most of our customers are very fond of the upgraded smart user interface.""The ability to add metadata and use that to categorize information is a valuable feature of OpenText Extended ECM.""The tool's most valuable features are document storage, security, and compliance.""OpenText Extended ECM's most valuable features include permissions and security models. I also like the tool's ability to add metadata and use it to categorize information."

Cons
"I don't like the low level of role-based security it provides – it's very cumbersome, and the support is ordinary at times.""If you want to delete something in Box, you have to do it manually, one by one. That was my recent experience. They might have a bulk delete, but I could not find that option. If you want to delete something, you have to go to each and every file and delete it.""Improvements in speed - Box's high level of security impacts performance, especially when compared with other similar services.""The room for improvement is in the area of integrations. They need to establish more integrations, especially with Office 365 and Outlook.""With OneDrive, you can continuously save your files over a Box folder. That is something I wish we could have.""Data privacy, regarding where to store your data: Offering several transparent(!) options (where to store my data and whether to sync back or not and where to sync) regarding the local law situations (USA, EU, Switzerland!) would increase the credibility of a US based company (after NSA ‘snooping’).""I haven't really come across a case where we're not able to use it for what it is, so I don't really have anything holding us up or any customers holding us up at this point that I know of. There are always some limitations, but as a technologist, I just live with them, and there is always room for improvement, but I don't have anything quantifiable.""One thing that Box would benefit from is a records management component."

More Box Cons →

"The architecture needs improvement, as it's complex.""We had some issues with scalability in the production. So, I would rate it a five out of ten.""A dashboard with information would be nice to see.""We are looking for new, advanced UI features. Currently, the UI does not look great.""The initial setup can get really complicated, and it takes time.""The solution should work better with partners and be more developer-friendly.""Initially there can be stability issues due to unknown factors such as usage of the system, quantity of documents ingested, load during peak hours.""Pricing could be improved and the stability or the performance needs improvement, which is very important."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The pricing may seem steep at first, but delve into the features and you'll soon realize it is incredible value for what you get."
  • "It is expensive per head, as you need the enterprise license to get full security and tools. So negotiate a discount!"
  • "Better sign a full year's contract to get a discount."
  • "I'm in Higher Ed, so we purchase through Internet2-Net+. I absolutely recommend going that route for Higher Ed customers."
  • "A business account has a minimum of three users. If you are more than three people in-house, go for the Enterprise version. All the external users are free of charge."
  • "Our pricing and licensing is excellent. I'd tell all Higher Ed customers to talk with Internet2 for excellent pricing and support."
  • "I believe Box is cheaper than SharePoint."
  • "They are very price competitive when pushed. Initially, they come out with a standard list price, but they are willing to be very competitive. The Box price was pretty much equal to or lower than the Citrix price, and Box has more features."

  • "The licensing is not that complex for the core products, but it becomes more complicated for some additional modules."
  • "Both Open Text ECM and IBM File share are expensive."
  • "It is a little more expensive than our previous solution, but because of the fact that it has become a rallying point for different groups to come under, it might end up paying off better in the long run by not having seven siloed solutions. Even though this one solution is a little pricey, it might eliminate other ones."
  • "The tool's pricing is confusing to the end customer."
  • "The solution is expensive."
  • "OpenText Extended ECM is an expensive solution."
  • "The product is pricey."
  • "OpenText Extended ECM's pricing and licensing are aggressive and confusing for the end customer."
